And now, for your amusement ... the Amazing Democratic Kreskins of 2017-19

Psychic they ain’t. Kudos to the Washington Post for this hilarious (if too brief) look at the multiple times Democrats in Congress and the Obama administration predicted indictments against Donald Trump and his family over the last two years. JM Rieger follows up with a more detailed report about the limb out onto which Democratic lawmakers climbed — only to have Robert Mueller saw it off:

Days before special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation concluded, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) made a bold claim about President Trump and obstruction of justice.

“There are indictments in this president’s future,” Blumenthal said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Whether they’re after his presidency or during it — obviously the Department of Justice said [it] cannot indict a sitting president.”

It is one of at least a dozen speculative or inaccurate predictions made over the past two years by Democratic lawmakers involving potential indictments against Trump campaign officials or Trump himself on conspiracy or obstruction charges, examples of which you can watch in the video above.

The Post added a nice touch by setting it to Richard Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyiries,” too, perhaps an Apocalypse Now reference about the apocalypse that never actually came for Trump. Or maybe it’s more basic than that; Democrats have seen their Valhalla burn to the ground over the last couple of days, no? It’s at least a Muellerdammerung, if not a full-blown Gotterdammerung of Democratic credibility.

Rieger takes care to point out, though, that it’s not actually entirely over:

Now, Trump and his allies are pointing to such remarks to attack critics, demand apologies and, in some cases, ask cable networks to ban certain guests. But lost in this “reckoning” is the equating of “collusion” and “conspiracy” and conflating the Mueller probe with at least half a dozen ongoing state and federal investigations into Trump and the organizations he ran.

True, and let’s not forget also the myriad of investigations planned by House Democrats over the next eighteen months too. Of these, the one with the most potential for real jeopardy will be the Michael Cohen-linked probe run by the DoJ’s Southern District of New York. The rest, especially those run in the House, will suffer from the dramatic destruction of the credibility of Trump’s opponents and accusers. They set the bar so high and were so self-assured about their predictions that it will be difficult if not impossible to take any of them seriously any longer, and the collapse of the Russia-collusion hypothesis will make people much more skeptical about other accusations and their advocates.

That’s especially true of John Brennan, who didn’t just opine but repeatedly insinuated he had insider information backing up his predictions. Should Brennan be banned? If MSNBC cared a whit about its credibility, they’d issue a persona non grata edict on the former CIA director. I suspect that at least a couple of the channel’s hosts might already be distancing themselves from his stench, but a couple more might want to use him for doubling down. Hope they enjoy the next version of the WaPo’s highlight reel, if so.
