So much for subtlety, eh? The New York Times’ Patrick Healy talked to Clintonworld last week to get the lowdown on how they see a Hillary Clinton presidency operating. In an article chock-full of signals for popular consumption — she’ll be moderate, she’ll work with Republicans, Bill will be put on a short leash — this signal might be the most portentous of all:
She hopes to reassure progressives with her executive actions, which would also include new protections for undocumented immigrant parents, as well as her personnel appointments. Having women make up half of her cabinet would be historic (in recent years, a quarter to a third of cabinet positions have been held by women), and Democrats close to Mrs. Clinton say she may decide to retain Ms. Lynch, the nation’s first black woman to be attorney general, who took office in April 2015.
What’s next? A horse’s head delivered to Lynch’s office?
Let’s recap, shall we? The FBI appears to be finalizing its probe into Hillary Clinton’s transmission and retention of highly classified material on an unauthorized and non-secure private e-mail system. They interviewed her this weekend and have hinted that a decision on a referral for indictment will come before the Democratic convention, a clear indication that Hillary has been the target of the probe all along.
In a supposed coincidence, Bill Clinton just happened to run into Attorney General Loretta Lynch at the airport in Phoenix. A thirty-minute tête-a-tête took place between the person in ultimate charge of the investigation and a potential material witness — the server was in Bill’s house, too — or even a target of the probe, if the FBI gets interested in the Clinton Foundation threads of the scandal.
Both sides insist now that the meeting was “primarily social,” but that stretches credulity to the breaking point. There is no evidence that Lynch and the Clintons have had much social contact at all, and even if there was, one or both of the Clintons are primary figures in a major FBI probe — one tying up dozens of agents for a year now.
This leak from within the Clintons’ clique (or from the Clintons themselves) makes it all too obvious. The Clintons are offering her a job in the next administration, and they’re now doing it publicly, at the same time Lynch remains in nominal charge of the outcome of the probe. The only things missing from these signals are fireworks and semaphore flags.
