Video: SNL zings ObamaCare in cold open

I saw a lot about this on Twitter last night before hitting the sack, but didn’t see it until this morning. It’s a Mulligan stew of references and zingers, including one about Ted Cruz (meh), and another about how we could save $5 billion a year in emergency rooms (better).  The biggest audience reaction came near the end when Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul showed up in character to claim that ObamaCare caused Walter White to become a meth-brewing murderer, but the actual best description of what ObamaCare does comes earlier, when a father tells the audience that his deadbeat son now never has to work for health insurance ever again.

For me, it’s a mixed bag, but Twitter seemed delighted, so YMMV (via Instapundit):

I think the biggest takeaway from this is that the “hip” audience sees ObamaCare as a ripe target for satire, especially its rollout.  Needless to say, if the train wreck wasn’t apparent to everyone now, the opening skit last night would have been all Ted Cruz and hysterical Republicans.  That may not be a “cultural shift,” as some on Twitter surmised, but it’s not a good sign for Democrats who expect pop culture to always have their backs.

Michael Ramirez gives us a more accurate presentation of the rollout of ObamaCare, just as the countdown comes to an end (via Power Line):
