Ramirez and Whittle on lessons learned for this Independence Day

The timing of this Independence Day is either ironic or providential, depending on what lessons one draws from the Supreme Court decision upholding ObamaCare.  Michael Ramirez, the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for Investors Business Daily, leans toward irony in his editorial cartoon from this week:

Bill Whittle, on the other hand, considers it more providential.  The fate of our liberty should not rest on just five people at the Supreme Court, even if that’s their job, as Bill reminds us.  No, the responsibility rests on all Americans, and we already took the first step toward reasserting the primacy of liberty in 2010.  In four months, we can finish the job, and that should have us energized, not depressed:

“They have us surrounded … poor bastards.”  To channel the great Instapunditindeed.

Also, be sure to check out Ramirez’ terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.  And don’t forget to check out the entire Investors.com site, which has now incorporated all of the former IBD Editorials, while individual investors still exist.
