NBC reports demand for Holder resignation ... but not why

Hey, NBC finally reported on Operation Fast & Furious! Of course, it took a high-profile call for the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder to get them to do so, but at least they mentioned the scandal, in which hundreds of Mexicans and two US law-enforcement agents have lost their lives. That’s at least a good start.

Well and good, except for the fact that they didn’t actually link the resignation demand to the Fast & Furious scandal. NBC News last night cut the tape to make it look as though Senator John Cornyn demanded the resignation on the basis of the scandal over leaks from the White House on classified national-security operations, as our friends at Breitbart reported today:

In the eighteen months since the Operation Fast & Furious investigation began, Brian Williams and NBC Nightly News have never mentioned the Department of Justice’s gunwalking controversy. Every single time Mr. Holder has testified or a major development happened, NBC Nightly News ignored it. Tonight, in their first mention of the scandal–ever–NBC Nightly News and Brian Williams distorted Attorney General Eric Holder’s testimony.

While the majority of the testimony covered Operation Fast & Furious, NBC made it appear that the hearing was mainly over the national security leaks. The segment even made it appear that Senator John Cornyn called for Mr. Holder to resign over said leaks when, in fact, he expressed his greatest frustration with Mr. Holder over Fast & Furious.

That small bit at the end is all NBC viewers know of the deadly gunwalking that took place on Holder’s watch, at least from NBC’s reporting of it.  No mention of the deaths.  No mention of the anger from the Mexican government over the lack of communication and coordination of the operation.  No mention that the House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed 240,000 pages of material, and Holder’s DoJ has only surrendered 7,000 — many of them so heavily redacted as to be completely blacked-out pages.  Not even a mention of the misrepresentations made by senior DoJ officials, including Holder himself, as to the timing and depth of knowledge of this operation, intended to embarrass gun owners and provide a pretext for tougher gun-control laws.

Perhaps those who only get their news from NBC might be curious enough after this brief clip to see how well the network informs them of current events … and start switching channels as a result.
