Obamateurism of the Day

Fool me once, shame on you … fool me twice, shame on me The old maxim seems to especially apply in political campaigns, especially when politicians run for re-election.  When they fail to deliver on campaign promises the first time around, most voters are smart enough not to fall for it a second time … which makes the campaign promises from Barack Obama this time around even more cynical, as BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kazcynski demonstrates by matching them up with video from the 2008 campaign:

And now I want to finish the job by streamlining government and cutting more waste, and reforming our tax code so that it is simpler and fairer, and asks the wealthiest Americans to pay a little bit more.

We will reform Medicare — not by shifting the cost of care to seniors, but by reducing the spending that isn’t making people healthier.

It’s time to stop denying citizenship to responsible young people just because they’re the children of undocumented immigrants.

Say … didn’t this guy have more than three years already to get to these issues?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
