When I first saw this video, via Twitchy and Drudge, the first thing that came to mind was an old joke about good news and bad news for galley rowers on an ancient ship. The good news, the whipper told them, was that they would get double rations in the morning. The bad news? “Captain wants to go water-skiing in the afternoon.”
In this case, the good news is that GSA employees got to waste taxpayer-paid work time making a video celebrating their efforts to “go green.” The bad news? It’s because “POTUS wants a press event,” according to their jingle:
The House Oversight Committee found this video in their probe of the GSA, and calls it “American Idle 2.” Allahpundit covered the original last week, which showed lavish outlays for GSA’s annual conference that violated federal guidelines and its own standards. In comparison, the waste of resources is mild, but the motivation may be worse. Since when do federal employees use work time to give the President a “press event” in the middle of a re-election campaign? That sounds suspiciously like using taxpayer resources for campaigning, and that is something the Oversight Committee needs to investigate ASAP.
