Earlier today, Governor Rick Perry visited Blogger Row at CPAC to chat with the group just before giving his speech to the general assembly — a well-received speech that shows that Perry has not lost the affection of conservative activists after a hard-fought but unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination. In between his visit and his speech, Governor Perry sat with Andrew Malcolm, Jim Hoft, and me to discuss the state of the race, the state of Texas, and the state of the nation, and not in that order. When asked if he would run for President again, Perry replied, “Oh, sure,” but said his focus was on Texas. He also discusses why he thinks a brokered convention wouldn’t be bad — and might be good for my business — and offered a very sharp message to President Obama:
Before we had a chance to start the interview, Perry walked to where my wife was sitting during the interview and had a lengthy, off-the-record chat with her about adult stem-cell research. Perry asked her a number of questions about her health conditions and transplants, and told her — I’m fairly sure this is OK to be on the record — that he wants to make Texas the national center for adult stem-cell research. It’s a moment and conversation that Marcia won’t soon forget, and I took this picture during their talk, which preceded our interview:
Update: I’m very sorry that the video was marked “private”; that’s not the setting I used when I uploaded it. I just got back from a blogger function and found the problem. I’ll move it up a bit in time and to Top Picks so people can see that the fix has been applied.
