Oh noes!  If we don’t get a funding bill in the next [fill in time frame here], we may have a government shutdown that will be entirely the fault of [insert name of demonized political party and/or politician here]!  Or … not:

House and Senate negotiators on Thursday night reached a tentative agreement on a $1 trillion omnibus spending bill that would avert a government shutdown, the Republican chairman of the House Appropriations Committee announced.

Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said he expected the conference report to be filed later Thursday for a vote in both chambers Friday.

“I am hopeful that the House and Senate can pass this bill tomorrow to prevent a government shutdown, fund critical programs and services for the American people, and cut spending to help put the nation’s finances on a more sustainable path,” Rogers said in a statement. “In spite of many unnecessary obstacles, it is good to see that responsible leadership and good governance can triumph.”

Blah, blah, blah.  You know, it’s like the boy who cried wolf.  After a while, some of us starting rooting for the wolf.

One good thing did come out of this crisis du jour.  If you like incandescent lightbulbs — or if you don’t like turning your home into a potential hazmat zone if your CFL breaks — you will still be able to buy the traditional bulbs for the foreseeable future (via Instapundit):

Riders preventing the District of Columbia from funding abortions and stopping a forced transition from incandescent light bulbs were left in the bill after the final round of talks.

Both of those are wins for the GOP, especially on funding abortions, although I’m pretty sure it will be the revocation of the incandescent bulb ban that will get more play among conservatives.  Either or both would make the hyperventilation over potential government shutdowns worth it, but the best part is that we don’t have to hear any more of it for another eight or nine months.
