Obamateurism of the Day

Barack Obama seemed a little confused in his UN speech Wednesday. Obama sang the joys of non-violent change, but picked … well, an odd example or two:

The Qaddafi regime is over. Gbagbo, Ben Ali, Mubarak are no longer in power. Osama bin Laden is gone, and the idea that change could only come through violence has been buried with him.

Er, maybe the President doesn’t recall this, but Qaddafi’s regime is only “over” — we hope — because NATO bombed the hell out of his army and Libyans fought a war of rebellion for the last several months.  If Obama has forgotten, it would be strange indeed, since he’s the man who ordered the bombing to start in the first place.  What is that if not “change through violence”?

And for that matter, we didn’t exactly end Osama bin Laden’s career as a terrorist through FTD arrangements and a box of chocolates, either. (h/t HA reader Rob Rob)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
