Obamateurism of the Day

Say, didn’t people call Barack Obama “Reaganesque” in terms of his ability to communicate? Reagan knew how to tell a joke, however, a talent that apparently eludes the current President. Greg Hengler catches this painful moment from yesterday’s announcement of the appointment of Richard Cordray as the new chief of the CFPB:

Memo to the President: If you have to say “That was a joke” after the punchline … you’re doing it wrong.

I’d tell Obama not to quit his day job, but I wouldn’t mind if he got fired in 2012. He can spend his retirement taking humor lessons from Janeane Garofalo. Oh, wait ….

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
