Via TaxProf Blog, The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart manages to almost perfectly skewer Barack Obama’s rhetoric from his speech on Wednesday. First Stewart satirizes the anti-Ryan demagoguery with a depiction of seniors getting beaten to death with an Ayn Rand novel, and then he focuses on the new term we all learned this week — “spending reductions in the tax code.” What could that be, Stewart wonders for a moment, and then offers a couple of hilarious analogies in other areas of life. The final analogy is somewhat NSFW, and it’s funny enough that I left it off of the transcript below so that you’ll need to watch it through to the end:

What? “Spending reductions in the tax code”? The tax code isn’t where we spend, it’s where we collect, and that…. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I guess what you said is tax “code”, code for raising taxes. You managed to talk about a tax hike as a spending reduction. Can we afford that and the royalty checks you’re going to have to send to George Orwell? That’s the weirdest way of… just say “tax hike”! That’s like saying, “I’m not going on a diet, I’m going to add calories to my excluded food intake!”

As I wrote on Wednesday, this new entry in the ObamaSpeak lexicon is the new “kinetic military action” and “overseas contingency operation.” Maybe we’ll need to write a full dictionary of these terms by the end of Obama’s term in office.
