Obamateurism of the Day

Today’s entry comes from Jonathan Last at the Weekly Standard, who noticed this passage from New York Magazine’s profile of Barack Obama and his efforts to show humility and responsiveness after the stunning midterm defeat. On the humility front, Obama could use a little more work:

Obama didn’t know what he didn’t know, yet his self-confidence was so stratospheric that once, in the context of thinking about Emanuel’s replacement, he remarked in all seriousness, “You know, I’d make a good chief of staff.”

I think Don Rumsfeld would call that an unknown unknown.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
