NRSC ad: Harry Reid, Savior of the World

The NRSC asks whether Harry Reid is the Superman he claimed to be last week in saving the world from another Depression, or an arch-villain instead. That seems a bit hyperbolic; I’ve known Lex Luthor for years, I’ve followed Lex Luthor’s career, and Harry Reid is no Lex Luthor. How do I know? Lex Luthor would have been better at debating, for one thing. I think Luthor would have dumped Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama as partners early enough to save his own skin, too:

The ad’s hyperbolic sense seems deliberately ironic. Although the extensive global financial damage can certainly be laid at the feet of the US Congress and its lengthy and deep distortions of the mortgage market for social engineering purposes, the Greeks created their own problems and would have eventually faced collapse either way. No one forced the Greeks to overspend, overpromise, and kick the can on debt, and for that matter no one forced the US, Spain, the UK, and other nations to do the same, either. But Reid’s claim to have saved the world is so ridiculously hyperbolic and obtuse that it practically begs for this kind of response.

Lex Luthor would have been clever enough to avoid that, too. Perhaps Reid is more like … Otis?
