Is it too late to start a Bidenism of the Day?  Alas, Andrew Malcolm usually has that beat well covered, but in this case, the Hill reports on the just-reconfirmed running mate for Barack Obama’s election helping to turn Wisconsin, er, red. After getting a tepid reaction from his attempt to demagogue on globalization and jobs, Joe Biden blamed his audience for failing to appreciate his genius:

“We want to reward people who manufacture things in the United States, in Wisconsin, not to take them overseas to China and to other countries!” he said to a silent room at the event for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tom Barrett, according to a White House pool report.

He continued, saying, “You’re the dullest audience I’ve ever spoken to,” at which point he got applause and laughs. “Do you realize how many jobs Wisconsin lost? It’s staggering!”

Well, Wisconsin voters certainly know how many jobs have been lost — all while Obama and Biden claimed to be “saving or creating them.”  Biden speaks as if he and his boss have not been in power for most of two years, and Democrats in charge of Congress for almost four.  On top of that, Democrats have run Wisconsin for the last several years, if not longer, including Mayor Tom Barrett for whom Biden campaigned today.  So who lost the jobs, and who is responsible for them not coming back?

Barrett, by the way, is trailing significantly in the polls to Scott Walker, and at the same time Russ Feingold has fallen back of Ron Johnson.  Usually in those cases, politicians like to inspire the base by telling them how intelligent and powerful they are in order to fire them up and get them engaged.  Calling them the “dullest audience I’ve ever spoken to” is hardly motivational, but it does fit nicely with the recent White House strategy of scolding Democrats for not being enthusiastic enough about the massive failures created by their leadership.  Now they’re sending the court jester out to scold voters for not amusing him well enough.

In fact, Andrew Malcolm is already on this particular story, noting that the audience paid $250 to get insulted.  Imagine what Biden would have called them had they paid $500:

And after Biden’s emphatically-promised economic Recovery Summer didn’t recover anything and all this travel and talking, it can be frustrating for a longtime self-respecting ex-senator to stand in front of a bunch of dullard Democrat donors who just don’t get it.

Finally, Thursday the effing vice president had had enough. …

Nothing. No hoots and hollers. Not even a whistle. That did it.

“You are,” the vice president of the United States informed the party donors, “the dullest audience I’ve ever spoken to.”

Finally, applause and laughter.

Biden then took his political good will tour to Missouri. He’ll be in Seattle all day today, folks, for two more riveting fundraisers.

Maybe he’ll gripe about the lousy coffee in town …
