Obamateurism of the Day

Barack Obama notoriously likes to publicly assign a multitude of issues to the status of “highest priorities,” but perhaps he hasn’t necessarily aired every one of them yet.  In Bob Woodward’s new book, in a quote Politico called the week’s least-examined remark, Obama discussed his highest priority in planning the war in Afghanistan:

[It] was a conversation President Obama had with Lindsey Graham, revealed in Bob Woodward’s new book, in which he tells the Republican senator that he has to stick with his July 2011 withdrawal date in Afghanistan partly for political reasons.

“I have to say that,” Obama said. “I can’t let this be a war without end, and I can’t lose the whole Democratic Party.”

Er … I wonder which was his highest priority?  Note well that “victory” doesn’t appear to be part of Obama’s strategy, either.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
