Obamateurism of the Day

The First Dog, Bo, has become quite a celebrity in his own right.  The press loves stories about Barack Obama’s dog, helpfully named after the President’s own initials, as has happened in many White Houses before now with presidential pets.  In fact, Bo gets so much attention that the President lets Bo travel on his own — with his own jet, apparently:

Earlier Friday, the Obamas were greeted by Gov. John Baldacci and U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-2nd District, when they arrived in Trenton about 12:25 p.m.

The president was the first to walk onto the tarmac, dressed casually in a pale blue Oxford shirt and khakis. A few minutes later, the first lady, dressed in black capris, a tank-top and sandals, walked onto the runway. Shortly afterward, Malia and Sasha joined their parents. …

Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.; and the president’s personal aide Reggie Love, who chatted with Baldacci.

Say, isn’t this the same Barack Obama that insists that the US needs its carbon emissions capped?  Where in cap-and-trade will allowances be made for private jet flights for family dogs?  Maybe Bo just doesn’t care for Air Force One — and maybe someone should have left him at the White House instead of chartering a het for the dog and the aide.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
