Obamateurism of the Day

Barack Obama spoke yesterday in Kansas City, Missouri, trying to bolster confidence in his economic policies (via Greg Hengler):

And I’ve said since I took office that my administration will not rest until every American who is able and ready and willing to work can find a job, and a job that pays a decent wage, has decent benefits, to support a family. We’re not there yet. We’ve got a long way to go. But what is absolutely clear is we’re moving in the right direction. We are headed in the right direction, and that’s the surest way out of this storm is to go forward, not to go backwards.

The right direction on job growth, huh? Let’s recall the direction we’ve seen in this chart on civilian participation in the workforce since Obama imposed his economic policies, which kicked off with Porkulus (marked with the red star):

That direction — down — is the wrong direction. And even after the small bounce in the first quarter, which came nowhere near to a recovery, it’s going down again.  That, after all, is what’s “absolutely clear” to Americans who can’t find jobs.

As far as “my administration will not rest” goes, how many rounds of golf has Barack Obama played in his first eighteen months on the job?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
