Open thread: Obama to appear on Fox News

Is it Barack Obama finally fulfilling his campaign pledge to reach across the aisle?  Or is it a desperation attempt to alleviate the pressure from the Right on ObamaCare?  After siccing his media handlers on Fox last year in an ill-advised attempt to isolate the most popular of the cable news networks, President Obama has suddenly deigned to appear on the channel that a few months ago was described as nothing more than a propaganda outlet for his opposition.  Fox goes a little meta with an interview with the interviewer, Bret Baier, to promote it:

Fox News’ Bret Baier has a big day ahead of him, to put it mildly. The Special Report host has an exclusive one-on-one sit down with President Obama Wednesday.

In the world of journalism, an interview with the president is like the Super Bowl of all sit-downs. Or, in the spirit of the NCAA tournament and March Madness, we should say it’s considered the biggest dance there is to dance.

That got us thinking…just how does a network news anchor prepare for such a tremendous opportunity?

Fox and Bret Baier are taking questions by e-mail at [email protected].  What questions would you want Baier to ask, and what questions do you think Obama would answer?  My prediction: Baier asks tough but fair questions, and Obama offers platitudes as answers.  I doubt this moves the needle for Obama — but it will make it harder for the White House to try another war on Fox later in this election cycle, if they didn’t learn their lesson the first time.

Update: The interview is apparently already in the can, so don’t bother to send in any more questions.  Rumor has it that the dialogue was “confrontational.”
