For every action, according to the laws of physics, there is an equal and opposite reaction. If Isaac Newton had gone into politics, he might have observed that every obsequious gesture has an equal and opposite meaning to someone else. Michael Ramirez, the brilliant two-time Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist for Investors Business Daily, explains the concept concisely:
When Barack Obama travels abroad, he represents the people of the United States, not himself. His World Apology Tour earlier this year was bad enough. Kowtowing to foreign monarchs, especially with the ridiculously inappropriate bow to Akihito, signals Americans that Obama doesn’t think too much of our traditional idea of exceptionalism — and he doesn’t mind rubbing our noses in it on the world stage.
