Obamateurism of the Day

How hard is it for a Democratic President to fill a hall in Massachusetts when campaigning for a Democratic governor?  According to the Boston Herald and Jules Crittenden, one does not need to look to Virginia to see a big enthusiasm gap for a Democrat in the first year of Hopeandchange.  Barack Obama and Deval Patrick put together couldn’t fill more than half of the Westin Copley.  In, as I mentioned earlier, Massachusetts, one of the bluest of the blue states:

Geez. I’m sure Deval is glad to have the $600,000 grand, but maybe Barry should have done him a favor and stayed in D.C. To avoid the Bush-like embarrassment of low turnout and protestors. And we aren’t even a year into the first term yet.

Obama appeared to sense the big mistake made in appearing at the political equivalent of a Mary Richards dinner party, telling the crowd audience:

“There really should be no doubt that this guy gets a second term. But let’s be honest. This is going to be a tough race … ”

That ought to fire them up!  Maybe Obama should remind his staff of that … and perhaps ask why a Democrat would have a “tough race” in Massachusetts with Obama in the White House.  He could take a peek next door in Virginia and ask himself the same question.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
