Yemen shows why we need Gitmo

President Obama plans to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay and return most of the inmates to their countries of origin.  That idea took a blow last month when a former Gitmo detainee took over the #2 spot in AQ’s Yemeni network.  Now he has 170 potential new recruits — or shall we call them re-recruits?

Yemeni security officials say the country has released 170 suspected al-Qaida members from custody, less than two weeks after the terror group announced that Yemen has become a base for its regional activities.

The officials say the suspects were freed Friday and Saturday after signing pledges not to engage in terrorism. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to make statements to the media.

And now for the good news:

Yemen says it also expects most of the 100 Yemenis still held in the American prison camp at Guantanamo to be sent home after President Barack Obama ordered the prison shut.

What a great idea!  Let’s release the terrorists back to Yemen, so that they can sign pledges never to engage in terrorism.  They wouldn’t lie, now, would they?

Anyone released from Guantanamo Bay back into Yemen will wind up trying to kill Americans.  Our intelligence services will have to find them all over again and capture them before they can carry out any terrorist attack on Americans here or abroad.  Once captured, the US will have to detain them in a secure facility where they cannot escape and cannot do harm to their captors.

A facility designed to house terrorists.

A facility that employs people experienced at the task of housing terrorists.

Where, oh where, might we find such a facility?

Maybe we should make it easy on ourselves and leave the terrorists where they’re at.
