The parasitic profile of Hamas

Really, is there any more revealing portrait than this?

Hamas has set up an independent hospital in the Gaza Strip to treat its operatives wounded in fighting with the IDF – and, according to Israeli estimates, it is pilfering a significant portion of the medicine allowed into the Strip, senior defense officials told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.

Let’s get this straight.  Hamas ends their version of a cease fire and starts lobbing missiles and mortars onto Israeli civilians while insisting that they legitimately represent the people of Gaza.  Israel responds by attacking Hamas installations, leadership, and weapons caches, causing great misery for the people of Gaza.  In that face of this self-inflicted misery, Hamas establishes exclusive emergency facilities to treat only its members and steals supplies from Israel intended for … the people of Gaza.

At least Hamas has gone fully into parasite mode.  Perhaps that will even become apparent to the people of Gaza who supported Hamas in the first place.  Meanwhile, Israel keeps delivering the humanitarian necessities to Gaza, and hopefully faster than Hamas can pilfer from them:

Despite this estimate, the Defense Ministry said Monday that it would continue facilitating the transfer of food and medical supplies into Gaza. The humanitarian convoys, defense officials said, played a key role in garnering international legitimacy for the IDF’s operations in Gaza since it showed the world that Israel distinguished between Hamas terrorists and Palestinian civilians.

While there is no doubt that Israel does this for political purposes — everything a nation does has political motivations — they also do it because Israelis would like to live in real peace with their neighbors.  There is this underlying truth to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: if the Palestinians laid down their weapons, there would be no war, but if the Israelis laid down their weapons, there would be no Israel.
