The Arrogance of Migrants Is Something to Behold

There are few things more natural than people from different places and cultures being suspicious of one another. Human beings are tribal by nature, and tribes have always been exclusive.

As human societies grew larger, the "tribe" to which we are loyal has expanded, and the characteristics we use to identify who belongs to it can shift beyond mere proximity and familiarity. We can even have allegiances to different tribes at the same time. Texans tend to see themselves as members of their local community, Texas, the "tribe" of their favorite sports teams, and as Americans. Sometimes the tribal allegiances overlap, and sometimes not.

I guarantee you that Floridians and Texans worry about the influx of people from Blue states changing their politics, so imagine what happens when a person from a different country, culture, religion, and who behaves very differently from you, horns in and demands that you change for their benefit.

And, by the way, demands that you pick up the tab for their new lives.

That seems to be the new type of migrant entering Western countries. Back when I was growing up in Tucson, people grumbled about illegal immigrants from Mexico, but there was little actual hostility, except perhaps when the economy had taken a downturn. It had more to do with language than anything else, really, along with concern about drugs flooding through.

A lot of the muted response had to do with the fact that the illegal immigrants kept their heads down and did their best not to stand out. They weren't a big welfare burden, although ESL cost a lot of money in the schools, and they really did work hard and mostly paid their way.

They certainly didn't spend much time telling Americans how awful we were, whatever their thoughts may have been.

But migrants in the 21st century sure spend a lot of time telling people who either have invited them in or tolerated their illegal entry how awful we are, and how much our society sucks. It's a strange complaint, given how much effort they or their parents made to escape the craphole country they fled from.

While it is easy to resent them for their ingratitude, we should also notice that, for the most part, they are merely parroting the line that anti-Western elites have been preaching from Mount Olympus. You could find any of the litany of complaints being hurled at us by migrants being taught to university students and being preached and practiced in elite institutions through DEI programs.

Humza Yousef was born to Pakistani immigrants and became the First Minister of Scotland, which is a pretty amazing story. Most of us would find it inspiring that somebody came from such humble origins to rise to the pinnacle of power in an almost exclusively white culture.

Yousef doesn't. He seems to hate Scotland and the Scottish people.

We keep being lectured about our racism and white supremacy, but the obvious fact is that white Westerners have tried their best to integrate people from other cultures, and have gotten little more than slaps in the face from the people whom they invited in.

The current populist backlash to the failed multicultural experiment is utterly unsurprising. When the Swedes and Norwegians throw up their hands in disgust and basically close their borders and start throwing the migrants out, it's pretty hard to argue that the cause is hard-heartedness.

It's the rape gangs. The hatred. The groaning under the weight of massive welfare costs. The bombings, the crime, and the incessant demands.

A convicted Islamic terrorist stands a high chance of being elected to public office in Britain.

A violent extremist who plotted the destruction of British lives is going to walk the corridors of power in Britain.

A jihadi fighter who joined terror cells to fight in Afghanistan and Bosnia is going to be influencing the laws, culture, and heritage of Britain.

Why is this not on the front page of every national newspaper? Where is the outrage? Where are the protests?

We are sleepwalking right into the grasp of jihadism.

God Save Great Britain.

I've had lots of wonderful experiences with immigrants, but every one of them was grateful to be here and wanted to climb up the economic and social ladder. Several of the best doctors I have had were of Indian extraction. They were, in every way that mattered, American.

I still tear up when I see naturalization ceremonies, and most of the people there are more patriotic than any liberal I know. Immigrants, as a class, are more entrepreneurial than native-born Americans. Look at the latest round of tech moguls and note how many are immigrants.

Great! Love it!

But geez, man. When you show up and start lecturing us about how awful we are, as you put your hand out for our houses and our money, the appropriate response is "Screw you." And go home.
