Democrats Keep Picking Disgusting Candidates, and I'm Not Sure It Matters

The other day, I wrote about Aftyn Behn, the Democratic candidate in Tennessee's 7th Congressional District special election.

At the time, I was commenting on the fact that Behn, back before she was a candidate, was quite open about her contempt for Tennessee, and Nashville in particular.

“I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville. I hate it."

It was your typical virtue signalling BS, telling her audience that she was cool, unlike those flag-waving neanderthals who enjoy country music and those retrograde women who like to get dressed up and made up.

She is an AWFL, not one of those rubes. Ed has more on her disastrous performance on MS-NOW, or what Ed cheekily calls M-SNOW, since snow jobs are what they specialize in.

Her latest...gaffe?...was her utter inability to address the fact that she was tweeting out all the leftist BS about eliminating police departments, as well as her musings about how she can get away with things that others can't because she is an AWFL.

A transcript of her comments and Ed's wry response:

Q: Representative, in 2020 you made some tweets that have since been deleted, that were very critical of police. You said, in those since-deleted tweets, that the Metropolitan Police Department in Nashville should be dissolved, another shared on a teacher's union tweet that Defund the Police should be a requirement for schools reopening, and another saying "Good morning to the 54% of Americans who believe that burning down a police station is justified." 2020 was a very fraught year. Do you still stand by those comments, and if not, is there anything you want to clarify?

BEHN: Uh – I'm not going to engage in cable-news talking points, but what I will say is our communities need solutions, we need local people deciding, solving local problems with local solutions. And that's not the overreach of a federal government or a state government, of which we are dealing with in Nashville and our cities across the state of Tennessee.

Ahem. If Behn does not want to "engage in cable-news talking points," why is she making an appearance on cable news? It's not as if Behn wandered into a TV studio accidentally. Behn did the interview in an attempt to rescue her special-election campaign in a congressional district that has a Cook index of R+10 and which went for Donald Trump and Marsha Blackburn last year, 60/38.

Behn is, as you can see, a terrible candidate, about as electable as...Jay Jones.

Which is my point. Democrats keep nominating terrible candidates with backgrounds that should be immediately disqualifying, but it doesn't seem to matter in some cases. Chesa Boudin got elected as the chief law enforcement officer of San Francisco, Jay Jones as Attorney General, and Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York City. I could go on, but you get the point.

For God's sake, Brandon Johnson got elected as Mayor of Chicago! He is more dedicated to Marxism than Mamdani and twice as racist.

Democrats love their awful candidates, although Boudin was so awful that he got booted. So there is that.

It's not that Republicans haven't nominated some real clunkers. For all his virtues, Trump is at least partly responsible for some of them. But in many of those cases, the clunkers lost because voters—even voters in love with Trump—exercise at least a modicum of personal judgment.

Democrats seem to vote on only one issue: opposition to Donald Trump. Their loyalty to that cause is so much greater than to the country or common sense that they will fill out that oval for a serial killer, it seems. They have come close enough, and I hope the experiment is never run.

For all the talk about love of democracy and belief in the good of the country, that is complete BS. If you voted for Jay Jones, you don't give a damn about anything but knifing Republicans in the back.

Democrats like to claim that Republicans are in a cult. To which I say: look in the mirror, folks. You are projecting something fierce.
