Can we get past the idiotic claim that gender dysphoria is not a mental illness?
First of all, the claim is ideologically based, and secondly, it is factually incorrect. It's right there in the name: dysphoria, which is an emotional state, not a physical one. Transgenderism, like major depressive disorder or anxiety disorder, or psychosis, is diagnosed with evaluations, not through physical examinations or other kinds of diseases.
Dysphoria is a state of profound uneasiness, unhappiness, and dissatisfaction, often manifesting as anxiety, sadness, or agitation
I asked Grok about the claims, and it went through (virtual) mental gymnastics to maintain the line between this dysphoria and other mental illnesses. It spouted gobblegook for a while, and as I debated it on the points, it finally kinda sorta admitted that it was just going by what the current experts claim. But by all classic definitions, it is obviously a mental illness.
Reminder that Tim Walz signed multiple laws in 2023 that made Minnesota a "sanctuary state" for children to receive sex changes.

And mental illnesses need treatment congruent with the condition--it is a mood disorder--not by injecting hormones and chopping body parts off. Nor should we "affirm" something as real when it is not--that compounds the disorder. And we are seeing the results. Not so long ago, people with gender dysphoria were either able to live peaceful lives with relatively mild symptoms, or got intensive treatment for the psychological disorders that made their lives hell.

Now, as "affirming" has become a fad, we have a third way: Trantifa. Unhinged, violent, and angry people who demand that unless we share their delusions, they will commit violence or explode in other ways. Far from making life better through affirmation, transgender people seem more unhinged and disconnected from reality.

We've had a series of mass shootings by transgender people--a relatively new phenomenon that corresponds with the growing movement to "accept" transgenderism as normal, not disordered. We now see trans people exploding in anger on a hair trigger, and there is growing evidence that the current "treatments" cause harm in many ways.
Last year Tim Walz signed an executive order that made Minnesota a sanctuary state for child gender abuse. He invited families like this one who are transitioning their 6 year-olds. He's incredibly evil, which makes him a perfect fit for Kamala's VP. pic.twitter.com/xwkZ48P3kG

Saying something is a mental illness is not a slur; it is a recognition of reality. Millions of people suffer from mental illnesses, and if treated, most of them can live healthy and productive lives. Being mentally ill does not make you a bad person, just as being mentally "well" does not make you a good one. It just is, and if it interferes with functioning, it should be treated appropriately.
Minnesota Lieutenant Governor and US Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan
Unfortunately, the left wants to define away mental illness in some cases and claim it in others for virtue points. Everybody is "neurodivergent," which is good, but nobody who is seriously mentally ill can be labeled as such because that is seen as bad.

Stop it. If somebody is suffering from any dysphoria, we should try to help them. Whether it is depression, anxiety, or any other kind of mental imbalance then the sufferer needs help. Telling somebody who is mentally unwell that they are not is no different than telling an anorexic they really are fat or an obese person they look really healthy.

I don't think that being gender dysphoric is naturally associated with violence. Prior to the past decade or so there seemed to be very little violence emanating from the transgender "community." The rise of Trantifa appears to be a result of the rise of alphabet ideology, which promotes anger and violence. It uses words like "violence" and "genocide" for "deadnaming" somebody.
NEW: Two years before a shooter opened fire on students attending daily mass in Minneapolis, the leaders of independent + Catholic schools in Minnesota begged Tim Walz for help securing their schools. The funding was never authorized.https://t.co/S22chaEcNt

If somebody thinks that calling them "James" instead of "Jamie" is violence, expect violence from them.
Let's get back to reality. Yes, people with gender dysphoria deserve compassion and help. Because they are suffering, and God's children.
By all accounts so far, this man was loved and affirmed fully by his family. They accepted him and allowed him to change his name as a minor. They celebrated him as a her.

Keep that in mind in the coming weeks when we are gaslit by radicals trying to say that gender affirmation… https://t.co/3KVQjpMdZq
What they don't need is to be told that they are unhappy because others are hurting them, or be encouraged to hate anybody who doesn't see the world as they do.
Alphabet ideology and reinforcing mental illness are the problems. It turns unhappy people into powder kegs. We have to quit telling people suffering from mental illness that their unhappiness is the result of other people who hate them. It isn't true, and it isn't healthy.
When people are suffering and they blame others, they will strike out. It's a tale as old as time.
Let's get people with dysphorias help and quit telling them to blame others for their mental illness. It leads to this.
