IRS Leaker Didn't Expose 8,000 Tax Files; It Was 400,000

Last year, Charles Littlejohn was identified as the man who leaked President Trump's tax returns, and we were told that he had stolen the tax records of about 7500 to 8000 tax returns. He handed the returns over to leftist Pravda outlet ProPublica because of course he did.

Littlejohn was hailed as a hero by many, and the Biden administration charged him with one count for doing so. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for illegally accessing private tax data and leaking it, which is a big no-no.

#BREAKING: New disclosure reveals that the Biden IRS leaked taxpayer information of over 405,000 Americans -- including President Trump's. The IRS’s admission confirms the Committee’s suspicion and recent reports that show the scope of the leak was much broader than what the Biden Administration’s IRS initially led the public to believe. In May 2024, an IRS spokesman stated that “[m]ore than 70,000” taxpayers were affected. We found out that it's actually over 405,000 taxpayers! This is a MASSIVE scandal.  first launched his inquiry into these leaks last year. Getting answers for the American people!

Well, now we learn that the real number was closer to 400,000, which, last I checked, is more than 8000--a factor of 50, which is a pretty big difference I would say.

As the left, who were unbothered by this "whistleblower," are screaming about DOGE getting access to IRS files (which probably do not contain personally identifiable information), it seems a bit like they have a dual standard here. Just sayin'.

As Dan McLaughlin points out, Trump was somehow charged with 34 felonies for a perfectly legal transaction, which could have landed him in prison for life, Littlejohn was charged with one. Because he was trying to help defeat Donald Trump, so he obviously had good intentions or something. Of course, the 400,000 people whose information was leaked might see things differently, but when have Democrats cared about such niceties if they can get some political benefit out of the deal?

The IRS has information about everything in one's financial life, outsources access to outside contractors, and then hides the scope of the breach to downplay their misfeasance.

Unbelievable!! All the outrage and hysterics about Elon Musk and DOGE accessing sensitive information while the IRS all on its own gets caught red handed leaking taxpayer info of over 405,000 Americans—all without Elon’s help!!Will MSM even feign curiosity?

You might think this is a firing offense. Still, since the people lying to the American people are members of the Nomenklatura, it seems unlikely that they will face many or perhaps any consequences.

My God.Chaz Littlejohn stole up to 15 years of tax returns from OVER 400,000 taxpayers to send to liberal advocacy group ProPublica.IRS repeatedly downplayed the number of victims and Biden gave him a ONE COUNT sweetheart plea deal.  (At least the judge maxed out the sentence on the one count, but still.)

Leaking people's private tax data is no small thing. The consequences for many could be dire, and the people to whom this happened have every reason to be furious.

But since ProPublica got the data, how could it be that wrong? Wealthy people are bad people, and bad people should be hounded, subjected to public scrutiny of even their private finances, and perhaps have their identities cloned. It's only fair.

But DOGE doing an audit of the IRS and examining their bureaucracy for inefficacies is an entirely different thing. Only bureaucrats get to say whether they are properly serving the American people, not Elon Musk's team. Presidents are supposed to come and go, while bureaucrats are forever. At least until they become tax consultants who, ironically, spend their time getting well-compensated for helping the very rich avoid excessive tax burdens.

Government workers live in a world where rules are for us but not for them.

Of course, not all government workers are bad at their jobs or unethical in their practices. But we cannot have bureaucracies unaccountable to the people who employ them or unwilling to obey the policies of the elected officials.

But that is what we are told. The bureaucracy is a well-oiled machine working for our benefit.

Uh, no.
