All eyes have been focused on the wildfires in Los Angeles for obvious reasons.

But if the fires hadn't happened, you would rightly have been bombarded with stories about another DEI/Democrat failure of massive proportions in another liberal city: Richmond, Virginia.

For days, the city had no water at all. Residents, restaurants, hospitals, and businesses in the city and in many parts of the region the faucets were completely dry. And unlike Los Angeles, the problem wasn't that the water ran out (it shouldn't have, but did due to incompetence), it was the total failure of the city to manage its utility.

The Mayor of Richmond is a lefty activist, and in a move to increase equity he appointed a black female customer service representative to be in charge of the city's utilities. She has no experience in engineering.

The EPA inspected the water works and found them dirty, unsafe, with inadequate emergency procedures, and decaying. All that came home to roost when a power outage brought down the whole system, the backups didn't work, valves seized, the computer system crashed, and God decided to nearly destroy the whole system as punishment.

OK, that last part didn't happen, but it seemed like it.

Richmond's leaders are very concerned about social justice and have been putting all their efforts into righting the wrongs perpetrated over the centuries. Keeping the city going is a secondary concern because it is hard. It's much easier jump in with both feet on performative radicalism. Hire enough gays, take the knee for racist activists, and tear down statues.

Keeping the water flowing and clean is boring and difficult.

DEI prioritizes righting perceived wrongs over things like getting the job done. We saw that in Richmond and see that in Los Angeles.

It's not like the fires were not predictable. They happen all the time in California, yet Democrats fail to fill the reservoirs, don't clear the brush, punish residents for doing that themselves, and when the fecal matter hits the rotating blade, blame climate change and Republicans.

It's time to put Democrats in the political wilderness. They destroy everything they touch.
