The Great Springfield Cat Controversy is a gift that keeps on giving to the Trump campaign.
Pundits and journalists don't see it, of course, because what counts as important is very different from what Trump and Trump-curious voters care about. The intellectual class ridicules not just Trump but also people who are worried about the immigrant invasion of the US, but ordinary Americans feel for the people of Springfield and Aurora, CO.
According to the media, there are 2 types of people in Springfield, OH.

1. Hard-working Haitians who revitalized the town, saved the economy, and only eat normal food in normal places.
2. Racist, lying white people who refuse to work because they just want to do drugs.
Democrats are making fun of the story, which is good. And pro-migrant pundits and politicians are using this opportunity to make the case for millions more refugees and illegal immigrants to be imported into the US and dumped in small US towns.
A dishonest smear.

I didn't invent constituents complaining about this. We did help create the media focus on their complaints. https://t.co/0JfZrZ0fR4 pic.twitter.com/imEd3mPbkK
As the open borders crowd takes this opportunity to make their case, they have fallen into a trap: exposing their agenda to flood the country with noncitizens who need welfare, get rent subsidies, drive up housing costs, and drive wages for Americans down.
Three days ago, a group of nearly 500 elected officials co-signed a letter addressed to the Biden-Harris administration urging them to “strengthen the U.S. resettlement program" claiming 2.4 million refugees need a new home.

As state and local elected leaders, we aspire to make our communities places where newcomers have an equal chance to contribute and thrive. We have championed policies such as workforce development studies and reducing unnecessary occupational barriers so that skilled refugees can more easily join the workforce. As many communities struggle with labor shortages in key professions like teachers, nurses, and doctors, refugees have a critical role to play in filling staffing gaps.
Together, we can and must do more. With greater federal support, our communities stand ready to welcome refugees who want to restart their lives in safety. Safeguarding USRAP requires a multi-year commitment to invest in the refugee resettlement infrastructure to ensure the program remains sustainable for years to come. Our cities and states need greater coordination and support from the federal government so that newcomers have access to programs and services that help them succeed in their new homes. We are calling on your administration to double down on the investment of resources necessary to build a robust resettlement program that can withstand external pressures, refugee emergencies, and political transitions.
Yep. We are importing Haitian doctors and teachers. Uh-huh.
It is clarifying to see this debated out in the open. As much as we hear that the "great replacement theory" is a myth, when push comes to shove a lot of liberals have been open about their disdain for American citizens, calling them "lazy" and "drug addicts" while extolling the virtues of people who come from the failed states around the world.

Don’t believe that’s what the narrative has been?
Here’s the NY Times saying Springfield residents are lazy drug addicts who aren’t up for the job.
I guess they’re disposable and need to be replaced then? 🤷♂️ pic.twitter.com/t8gd7QoH6G
I have no particular problem with the people of Haiti, but any claim that there is no cultural clash between uneducated people who can't speak English, come from a culture where people do indeed eat cats and dogs, sacrifice animals as part of the Voodoo religion that the NYT says 50%-95% of Haitians practice, and who don't even know they need a drivers license is absurd.
There is no conceivable circumstance where you could take a town of 60k residents, dump 20k Haitian refugees, and expect things to go smoothly. And they haven't. The issue isn't dogs or cats but the declining quality of life for American citizens.
Martha's Vineyard couldn't deal with 50 refugees. New York City is groaning under the weight of a tiny fraction, relatively speaking, of migrants that Springfield is. In Springfield there are about 3 residents per refugee; in New York City, it is somewhere between 200-400 Americans per refugee.
The issue isn't the refugees per se; it is demanding that Americans sacrifice their own quality of life at the whim of politicians.
It is disgusting to see politicians and pundits attack the people of Springfield as racist druggies unworthy of living a decent life. By choosing the refugees over Americans, they are exposing their hatred of America's working class.
