But Trump...

Townhall Media

As Kamala Harris rolls out what amounts to a socialist economic agenda that almost every economist will tell you would destroy the American economy, there remains a hard-core group of so-called "Republicans" who bravely stand up and declare their fealty to Kamala Harris.

They have become pro-lifers for abortion, tax cutters for confiscatory taxes, and Constitutionalists for tyranny and censorship.

These same people embraced Joe Biden, who bragged about defying the Supreme Court, spent trillions of dollars we don't have, sparked inflation not seen since the 1970s, and tore up the Constitution to persecute Donald Trump and his supporters.

They keep telling us that they are doing this for our own good because we need to save conservatism and the country by defeating Donald Trump.

It is, frankly, insane to watch.

David French is the most obvious example

David French, an Opinion columnist, is an evangelical, pro-life conservative. For the first time in his life, he plans to vote for a Democratic presidential candidate: Kamala Harris.

He says he will vote against Donald Trump “precisely because I’m conservative.” In this audio essay, David explains how he arrived at his decision and argues for other conservatives to join him.

French gives a tortured and completely incoherent explanation for why he is voting for the most pro-abortion candidate in American history. He is, he claims, totally pro-life and complains bitterly that the Republicans are not pro-life enough.

So of course he will vote for Kamala Harris. It just makes sense.

I have followed French with the kind of fascination that I watched "Red Asphalt" in Drivers' Ed. There is something about a bloody car wreck that forces you to watch even though one is totally disgusted and about to wretch.

"Republicans for Harris" should be an impossibility. If she were a Joe Lieberman Democrat I could understand it, but Kamala Harris? It is absurd. On the basis of her economic policies alone she should be unacceptable. Or her abortion policies. Or her support for sterilizing and mutilating children. Or her embrace of censorship. Or her...

None of that matters. They hate Trump, despite his never having once done any of the things they so absurdly claim he did. They hold onto hoaxes as if they were real. They claim he is a dictator despite having left office in January 20th, as every president before him has done.

They are in love with their two-minutes hate.

I was never a big fan of French, but there are other NeverTrumpers for whom I had great respect. It saddens me to see them go crazy. I can think of a few whose derangement genuinely makes me sad.

It is, almost certainly, based on class hatred. I can see no other explanation.

And, in a way, I understand it. There is a class of conservatives who have polite disagreements with the transnational elites regarding HOW to transition to a world run by and for them, but they definitely feel much more comfortable with the Ivy Leaguers than the people who make things actually work.

This is the American Enterprise Institute crowd. It's not so much that they want to go to the cocktail parties; it's that they don't want to be associated with a Queens real estate developer who says crude things. Sterilizing and mutilating kids may not be their cup of tea, but if they can avoid the stain of a man who laughs about grabbing women in the groin, their sacrifice is worth it.

It bothers me that I get it. I wish Trump were a smoother talker and didn't speak in hyperbole. My parents were Harvard-trained academics, have a postgraduate degree, and spent a few years teaching at elite institutions before dropping my plans to get a PhD and teach for my career.

But so what? Trump is good for the country, just as the best General in the Civil War was a crude drunk and Patton was a jerk. They did the job, and we are much better off for it.

Kamala Harris is of their class. A child of Marxist academics whose experience with private enterprise is a trip to Tiffany's every once in a while, she gets a pass for wanting to murder children and destroy the economy.

At least she would fit in at the faculty meetings.
