Our current version of reality is stupid.
Honestly, I am ready to give up. Thank God I go on vacation next Thursday. I need a break from all the insanity.
The Harris campaign is going to announce a slate of "economic policies" tomorrow that crib from Hugo Chavez's insanity, and we are going to see cheering across America by Democrats and the mainstream media.
I can't believe any politician above the level of Student Council Treasurer could be this freaking economically illiteratehttps://t.co/iYYqtcIzRv

Price controls are the most discredited economic policies in human history, so I shouldn't be surprised to see that Kamala Harris is going there. But, to be honest, I am a bit.
Harris will propose, what her campaign bills as “the first-ever federal ban on price gouging on food and groceries—setting clear rules of the road to make clear that big corporations can’t unfairly exploit consumers to run up excessive corporate profits on food and groceries.”

I'm not surprised that she could be so stupid or that her voters could be--after all, these people are incapable of distinguishing male from female--but because the Overton window in my mind hadn't expanded enough yet to conceive that anybody near power would seriously go there in the United States at the federal level. We have literally tried this policy in the recent past and it has been a disaster both here and abroad.
WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris plans to propose the first-ever federal ban on “corporate price-gouging in the food and grocery industries,” her campaign announced late Wednesday.
“There’s a big difference between fair pricing in competitive markets, and excessive prices unrelated to the costs of doing business,” the Harris campaign said in a statement. “Americans can see that difference in their grocery bills.”
The proposed ban is part of a broader economic policy platform that the Democratic presidential nominee plans to unveil Friday at a campaign rally in battleground North Carolina.
It's one thing to whinge about "excessive profits;" it's another thing to create a federal regulatory body to control prices after the decades of experience we have in how insane that it. It is simply impossible for any government body to determine what the 'right' price for any good or service should be, and we have more than enough evidence that when government does determine prices it keeps them high when the money goes to friends, and drives them below any reasonable level when the people in charge are disfavored.
Think Boeing vs. SpaceX.
Notably this new move by Harris comes after Biden tried cracking down on consolidation in the meat processing industry in 2022 and then provided, per USDA, over $700 million in grants to independent meat and poultry packers.

No doubt the "NeverTrump" Republicans who have flocked to Harris after debasing themselves by supporting a senile Biden will comfort themselves that supporting the most radical socialist candidate for president in modern history will somehow save conservatism, but I, to be honest, have my doubts.
Kamala's new "solution" to inflation?

Government mandated price controls.
I asked Grok what price controls did to Venezuela. Here is what it told me:
After the implementation of price controls in Venezuela, primarily under the leadership of Hugo Chávez and continued by…
Really, I do. Stay with me here for a moment. I have this crazy idea, David French and all you idiots claiming to be "Republicans for Harris," that putting a communist-adjacent baby killer with the IQ of a turtle will not save America.
To put this all in perspective, let's take a look at a country that did exactly the opposite because I saw this in the news today:
The inflation rate in Argentina has fallen for its 5th straight month:

Argentina's economy is turning around--rapidly. Once you couldn't find a place to live because landlords were driven out of the market by PRICE CONTROLS, now the housing market is suddenly flooded with places to stay because rent control was lifted under Javier Milei.
What happened when rent control ended in Argentina?

Housing supply surged.
Let this serve as a reminder to every American who thinks rent control would be a good idea. https://t.co/63h9FNABPy
We really do live in the stupidest of times. Kamala Harris is, according to the betting markets and the pollsters, the leading candidate for President of the United States, and has the intelligence of a retarded gnat.
