Why Were the DC Protests So Out of Control? There Were Only 29 Police!

Many people are wondering how and why the protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got so out of control on Wednesday.

In addition to the vandalism, tearing down of the American flag, and general violence, the police trying to control the crowd were violently attacked.

Well, there is a simple answer: there were only 29 Park Police who could defend the sites against the rampaging mob, and the Department of the Interior was unwilling to help those guys out. Dealing with a violent mob consisting of thousands of Antifa and pro-Hamas proto-terrorists, they were outmanned beyond belief.

The Interior Department is pulling the Secret Service maneuver, claiming that no requests for help in that instance were denied.

Uh, yeah, right. Good job, Brownie.

The Department of the Interior refused Wednesday to provide reinforcements for U.S. Park Police officers as anti-Israel protesters ran amok through Washington, congressional Republicans charged.

Protesters toppled American flags and sprayed pro-Hamas messages on monuments outside Union Station, just blocks from the U.S. Capitol. That area is controlled by the National Park Service, which is part of the Interior Department.

Rep. Bruce Westerman, chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, demanded the department explain why it allowed the protesters to “run wild.”

“It has come to my attention that, despite specific requests by the USPP for additional resources, the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the National Park Service (NPS) failed to provide adequate additional support for the USPP, such as providing additional law enforcement units from within DOI to enhance USPP’s presence within the National Capital Region,” the Arkansas Republican wrote in a letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland.

The National Park Service refuted Mr. Westerman’s claim in a statement, saying “no resource requests were declined by NPS or Interior leaders.”

There was absolutely no secret that thousands of people were bussed in to Washington to wreak havoc. The plans were known, the threat was obvious, and 29 police officers were thrown to the wolves. The Interior Department shrugs, just like Kimberly Cheatle did. Mincing words doesn't change reality.

The Fraternal Order of Police's Kenneth Spencer didn't mince words, though, defending his police officers against the outrage of Congressmen who rightly were angry that the protesters could deface our monuments, defile the flag, and run riot in the capital.

"Our officers on the ground did everything they could to protect life and property. In fact, despite having only 29 officers available to mitigate damage - 29! - with no additional help from the Department of the Interior, we processed several arrests for charges ranging from assault on a police officer to destruction of government property. That's why it's so disheartening to hear some Members of Congress and members of the media, many of whom describe themselves as "champions" of law enforcement, suggesting that officers gave protesters a "pass" or that insufficient arrests were made. Nothing could be further from the truth - anyone who truly cares to understand the problem would see that our officer staffing crisis is at the root of our agency's mission readiness. A small unit of 29 officers arrested 10 individuals while being assaulted by a mob of thousands. We simply did not have the staffing or resources to accomplish a mass arrest operation. The Interior Department and the National Park Service have stood in the way of congressional action on the US Park Police Modernization Act which would solve many of these issues for decades to come."

While this has the tone of "It's not my fault," he obviously has a point. It isn't their fault, because nobody can do the impossible.

And what happened to those 10 protesters who the police successfully arrested after assaulting police?

They're out already--released the SAME DAY. At least some of them. I am not clear whether they all were released, but this is Washington D.C., where the only crime is being a Republican. Some January 6th protesters were held in solitary confinement for over a year before they were even tried.

It is beyond belief. Except, of course, it is not. This is the reality of our Blue cities, where justice is dispensed on an arbitrary and capricious basis, as if the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or even the Magna Carta never existed.

The police charged with keeping the peace and defending our capital were set up to fail. It was an intended result, not a misjudgment or negligence on the part of the federal government. It simply has to be because this result was not just predictable but inevitable.

These protests are funded by Iran--that is not an accusation but a confirmed fact. And as with all things Iran, this administration gives them either a pass or even aid and comfort.

Either there is an outbreak of such monumental incompetence at the federal government, or somebody there wants total chaos in the streets, as we saw in the last election year. It is quite a coincidence, isn't it, that 2020 and 2024 are characterized by mass violence in the streets, isn't it? Political violence is on the rise, President Trump was shot and nearly killed due to what can only be described as malignant negligence on the part of the top ranks of the Secret Service, and we are being subjected to the most massive campaign of gaslighting ever seen in American history.

The Leftist political machine is in overdrive. They have been losing the culture war recently as more Americans recoil at their extremism, so they are turning up the heat.

Will it help or hurt them? I don't know.

But clearly they think it will. What else do they have in store for us this year?
