NYC Fighting Hard for Non-Citizen Voting; DC Already Has It

I know some very fine people who can't imagine why conspiracy theorists like me believe that the border crisis has been manufactured for the political benefit of Democrats.

Ah, those sweet summer children. It must be pleasant to be this naive. The world looks more inviting when you always believe the best in people, or at least liberals.

As millions of illegal immigrants have been ushered into the country, cities around the US have been simultaneously pushing for noncitizen voting. The two must be unrelated because all the best people tell me so. Either that, or they are Machiavellian schemers doing their best to steal the country out from under us.

In 2021, the New York City Council voted to allow noncitizens to vote in "local elections," as if elections held without any voter ID would be secure from noncitizens voting in every race.

Most news reports on the law suggest that this law would only apply to Green Card holders, but if you look at what the city says it also includes anybody with a work permit--as many "refugees" let in by Biden do once they have been in the country for a few months. And Democrats have demanded that work permits be made immediately available to all entrants.

New York Courts have struck down the law twice because it violates the New York Constitution. Leftist activists and the Council are not deterred

The New York Immigration Coalition, which supports non-citizen voting, decried the ruling.

“While we are still reviewing the decision and its impact on immigrant New Yorkers, the lawsuit remains another shameful attempt by xenophobic Republicans who would disenfranchise residents rather than promote a more inclusive and participatory democracy,” NYIC Executive Director Murad Awawdeh said in a statement. “Immigrant New Yorkers deserve a say in how their local government functions and spends their tax money, and we remain committed to ensuring the expansion of voting rights.”

The City Council and Mayor Adams have been appealing the decisions and just decided to take the case to the Supreme Court

NEW YORK — The New York City Council filed a notice of appeal Monday to the state’s highest court in support of a 2022 law it passed granting municipal voting privileges to non-citizens with green cards or work authorizations.

“Empowering New Yorkers to participate in our local democratic process can only strengthen New York City by increasing civic engagement,” council spokesperson Rendy Desamours said in a statement, adding that the legislative body finds the law consistent with the state constitution, election law and municipal home rule.

The argument is simple: since non-citizens pay taxes they should have a say in how they get spent. Sounds fair, right?

Ask Mayor Adams about how eager he is to import more "contributing members of society," and about the impact that they have had on the city budget. It's pretty clear that the books don't balance in favor of the new entrants' contributions, and it's not clear that giving political power to a constituency that began its journey to NYC by breaking laws is such a great idea.

Just sayin'.

If the City Council gets its way, 800,000 new voters would be put on the rolls, radically changing the voting population and perhaps the balance of power in the city, because yes, there are still some Republicans in the city.

It's not absurd to imagine the Council could still win; a federal judge just dismissed a lawsuit against noncitizen voting in Washington D.C., our nation's capital. How fitting.

Arguments that this is just about fairness and has nothing to do with politics are absurd. Illegal immigrants are included in the census and their numbers are already used in redistricting, giving more power to Blue states that have been losing population of late. This, in turn, reshapes Congress and the Electoral College.

This is all obvious to the meanest intelligence once you engage your critical mind instead of assuming the purest of intentions to anybody Left of center--and once you figure out that the MSM is in the tank to Democrats. Ask Chuck Todd about that, as he embraces Jen Psaki as a journalist while he rages that Ronna McDaniel is allowed to speak at all.

The plan is coming together.
