Disney Still 100% in on DEI

Did you think that Disney had learned its lesson?

Silly you! Disney's problem wasn't only skin deep--it's entire C-Suite and management structure is steeped in ESG and DEI ideology, and it will take a lot more than massive public criticism, losing billions of dollars, and a political beating to change course.

The simple fact is that Disney has been captured by the Woke Mind Virus, and like a Zombie, it can take a lot of damage before it falls down and gives up.

Elon Musk, as you can see, got a leaked document that specified Disney's mandatory targets for content, creatives, and line employees.

On their face the targets look like they would violate the law, given how explicit they are regarding the race, sexual preference, and gender requirements they specify.

The first set of requirements may or may not be wise or attractive to their customers, but theoretically they present no problem that I can see regarding employment law.

The next, though, look problematic to me, at least as a layman:

It's all about how many members of "underrepresented groups" must be employed:

STANDARD B

CREATIVE

LEADERSHIP

At least THREE of the following SIX areas need to be met to fulfill

Standard B:

•B1 50% or more of producer & above on writing staff and 50% or more of Co-Producer & below on writing staff come from

Underrepresented Groups

•B2 50% or more of episodic directors come from Underrepresented Groups

•B3 Casting Director is from an Underrepresented Group or has not previously worked on a DGE show in this role

•B4 Meaningful representation of Underrepresented Groups in senior creative leadership

•B5 Promotion of a member of an Underrepresented Group into a role that constitutes career progression for at least one member of the writing staff

•B6 Substantial year-over-year increase in members of Underrepresented Groups as directors and in writing staff

STANDARD C

BELOW-THE-LINE

At least TWO of the following FIVE areas must be met to fulfill

Standard C:

•C1 50% or more of line producer and/or production department heads (ie: DP, composer, costume designer, editor, production designer, music supervisor...) come from Underrepresented Groups

•C2 50% or more of other key roles (any mid-level crew and technical positions) come from Underrepresented Groups

•C 50% or more of the overall crew or project staff come from Underrepresented Groups

•C Promotion of member of Underrepresented Group into a role that constitutes career progression for at least one crew/team member

•Cs Hiring a Line Producer and/or Production Department Head who has not been previously employed in that role on a DGE

It's hard to see how this is anything less than mandatory race, sex, sexual orientation, and other forms of discrimination.

That's for the lawyers to decide, of course, and thank God I am not one of them. I don't have the patience.

What is blindingly obvious, though, is that Disney has no intention of reversing course on its ideological shift to the Left, and is 100% committed to using every tool at its disposal to solidify that commitment both within the organization and to spread the gospel of DEI to its customers--in this case, children.

There is a lot of talk out there about how ESG and DEI are on the wane, but I will believe it when I see it.

And I, for one, don't see it yet. Corporations may, in some cases, quit being so obvious about it, but Human Resource departments were captured long ago and the management ranks of our major corporations are filled with radicals.

Let's hope I am wrong to be skeptical.

PS: Gina Carono is suing Disney. Good on her!
