Taylor Lorenz: Only Right Wing Opinions Are Allowed at NYT

Townhall Media

Taylor Lorenz is known for telling it like it is.

A fearless truth-teller and a once-in-a-generation intellect, Lorenz may be the Edward R. Murrow of our time.

Lorenz has once again blown the lid off the media conspiracy to suppress Left-leaning speech in the newsrooms of America.

Lorenz dropped on us the revelation that while at the New York Times, the famously right-leaning paper made it impossible to express any opinions save those pre-approved by the conservatives who dominate the newsroom.

She did so while recommending that we read a piece that argued that American media outlets are relentlessly pushing a pro-Israel narrative that slanders Hamas, which is, of course, why all the statistics coming out of Gaza are provided by Hamas and why the Times famously and falsely accused Israel of targeting a Gazan hospital with an airstrike that killed 500 people.

Seriously, Lorenz is perhaps the most unhinged “reporter” in America, and by that, I mean that she is pretty clearly mentally ill. Few people lack self-awareness to the extent that she does–her whole shtick for a while was doxxing people, including showing up to Chaya Raichek’s relatives’ home and exposing her identity.

Lorenz is still on the COVID-19 bandwagon, proudly promoting masks well after everybody else has given up the pretense that they do anything.

One great irony of 2023 is that it came out in the Twitter Files that Taylor Lorenz was one of the many people able to censor others on Twitter with abandon–she had special access to the censors and targeted those she disagreed with–but now she is on Threads complaining that she is being censored.

Goose, gander, and all that. Although at the famously right-wing New York Times, we can’t assume the gender of geese.

It says nothing good about our media culture that Taylor Lorenz has been a star at The Atlantic, The New York Times, and now The Washington Post. She is a hypochondriacal mental case who would benefit from some counseling and a good dose of antipsychotics.

And yes, that is a diagnosis, and I can back it up with evidence: she asserts that the New York Times is an outpost of the alt-right.

There is one possibility that suggests I could be wrong, and that is the “performance art” theory of Taylor Lorenz, which is based on the idea that she is not crazy but extremely bright and cynical, using internet-tailored strategies to promote her brand and get ahead.

Nick Clairmont makes this argument, and it does seem plausible. Perhaps Tay-Tay is not mentally ill, but extremely cynical. This idea has the virtue of giving me permission to feel even more contempt for her on a moral level.

Either way, Lorenz herself is a symptom, not a cause, of journalism’s decline. That publications with the prestige of The Atlantic, The NYT, and the WaPo give her space on their pages does not speak well of them.

Not that there have been many nice things to say about them for a very long time.
