If You Aren't Batman and You Wear a Mask, You Are Probably the Bad Guy

One of the burdens I bear having chosen to be a commentator (a job for which I am very grateful!) is that I watch a lot of videos and read a lot of stories about bad people doing bad things.

And it is remarkable how many of those bad people are wearing masks. And no, I am not referring to the COVIDiots who are still frightened of a bad cold, but rather those people who march in the streets, rip off the flyers, and intimidate their political opponents.

Certainly, not all the evil people are wearing masks, but an inordinate number of them, usually White Leftists like Antifa zealots, proudly don these cowardly disguises before and during their barbaric rampages.

I understand the shoplifters and looters donning masks–they are trying to avoid the not-so-long arm of the law. These days they don’t need any identity protection, as law enforcement has basically given up on crime-fighting because, well, what’s the point? Some Leftist prosecutors or judges will applaud the stunning and brave actions of the criminals and give a lecture about White privilege and settler colonialist oppression.

But for some reason, political agitators get away with wearing masks while a large fraction of the electorate doesn’t catch on to the fact that this pretty much automatically means they are the bad guys. If they were really social justice warriors, wouldn’t they be proud of what they are doing and look the world in the eye to shame the rest of us into getting off our butts and joining them?

Martin Luther King didn’t wear a mask. He knew that his superpower was shame: I am brave, you are too weak to stand up for justice.

It worked. Because he looked us in the eye and many Americans did feel shame. He was brave, and his bravery called others to stand up for liberty.

Today’s “revolutionaries” are cowards. They are simply giving license to their Id, and rampage through the world and create a whirlwind of destruction. Their actions are shameful, and they are ashamed. There is no letter from a Birmingham jail because they are nihilists.

Yet for some reason, this nihilism appeals to a substantial fraction of our population.

Some, I suspect, envy the Antifa activists for indulging in violence and expressing their rage; others have been browbeaten into believing that when they look into the mirror they see an oppressor who deserves it, or at least looks like others who do.

Whatever the reason, those black-masked rioters and keffiyeh-hidden bigots shouting “from the river to the sea” are cowards who likely know that they are the scum of the Earth, and don’t want you to know who they are.

While I don’t respect the bigots who openly chant their hatred, I at least don’t think they are cowards. They have earned the right to be spoken to and argued with because they are speaking in the open. I may conclude they are racist scum, but at least they are willing to look you in the eye.

When I see the masked Nazis on the street corner, the White Supremacists in their hoods, or the keffiyeh-wearing Islamists who hide their face, I see the same thing in all their eyes: loathing not just for others, but loathing for themselves.

Good. They deserve to loathe themselves. They are cowardly scum.

When I see a masked protester I see a potential terrorist, not because of what they believe, but because they are broadcasting a threat. They have gone past the point of speech and have entered the realm of menace–which is why you see so many of those violent protesters masked.

To me it’s simple: if you are masked while making your point, chances are you are the bad guy.
