Leftists Tearing Down Hostage Flyers Everywhere

Leftists have no trouble defending the rape and murder of civilians in Israel on October 7th.

It was “armed resistance” by “militants.” “By any means necessary,” you know.

That is an unconvincing explanation, but at least they can repeat it endlessly and make it seem at least defensible to people inclined to be sympathetic to Hamas.

What is impossible to explain to anybody is the hostages. If this is war, how do you justify taking hostages as bargaining chips? Women, children, grandmas…these are so clearly noncombatants, and hostage-taking is so indefensible that there is only one thing to do: hide the evidence.

Make people forget that the hostages are there.

You may have noticed–I sure have–that unlike in so many other instances of hostage-taking, there has been minimal media coverage. It’s striking if you think about it, given how much coverage is given to others held against their will. For some reason, the hundreds of Israelis and citizens of other countries are simply ignored, because there is no way to justify the practice. Activists will claim that the rape and beheadings didn’t happen, but the hostages…the reality is a constant reminder of Hamas’ terrorism.

Supporters of Israel have been doing the work of the MSM and posting flyers of the hostages around the world, and Leftists have been doing what they do best: hiding the ball.

There is a certain glee exhibited by the offenders. Just as they support the violence by Hamas, they clearly are participating virtually by ripping down the posters of victims of Hamas.

The offenders are usually young people, who have been brainwashed into believing that “settlers” and “colonizers” deserve anything done to them. This is a key part of the DEI/Intersectional ideology: by any means necessary. We keep on hearing what the Leftists say, but fail to believe our ears.

They really do mean it.

The Left isn’t just an extreme ideology; it is based on the belief in extreme actions. We often hear about “peaceful” protests, or in the words of CNN “mostly peaceful” protests.

There is nothing peaceful about this ideological movement. It isn’t about peace, love, and understanding: it is about tearing down our civilization without any remorse for the victims of their jihad against the West.

There has always been a particular animus toward the Jews, perhaps because they have been particularly successful in adapting and thriving in Western society. Ironically the Jews are often not accepted as full members of Western civilization, as evidenced by the long history of hostility to Judaism and Jews by Christians.

They are, in other words, neither Western nor not Western.

As such they more than any other ethnic group stand as a refutation of the intersectional ideology. Jews may stand apart, but they can also thrive even in the midst of suspicion and even hostility.

Israel is a country that is most certainly an outpost of the West in the Middle East, but it also is thoroughly Jewish, so not wholly Western. Jews certainly understand their precarious position in the world, and while post-Holocaust the West has taken the Jews under our wing as it were, Jews understand that their ties to the West are less strong than, say, Great Britain or Germany.

The anti-Westerners understand that undermining the sympathy of Westerners for Israel is vital for their success, and hence they feel so passionately about denying the existence of the hostages.

The hostages are a constant reminder of just what Israel is facing. Westerners have come to understand that there are limits beyond which no civilized people will not go. And while constant repetition about “armed resistance” and denials of atrocities on 10/7 seem to be blunting sympathy for Israel, the hostages are a constant reminder that Hamas does not live by our rules.

It seems odd to me that the terrorist attacks were not enough to put Hamas beyond the pale, but clearly for many they were not. As the attacks fade into the background the new “atrocities” in Gaza are making some liberals rethink their sympathies.

But the hostages. They are a constant rebuke of Hamas and a reminder that they are evil.

Hence they must be erased. We can’t let that happen.
