First censorship, now outright bans of politicians and political parties

In the Left’s censorship crusade against all things conservative a new front has been opened up in Germany. AfD (Alternative for Germany), a populist political party whose main plank is restricting Germany’s insane open borders policies instituted under Angela Merkel, is in danger of being outright banned.

AfD enjoys the support of 20% of Germans and has grown like a weed ever since Merkel opened Germany’s borders to Syrian refugees, importing 1.2 million Muslim refugees since 2015, leading to tremendous social strife in the country. Merkel’s lasting legacy will likely be the increased crime and racial strife she invited in along with the refugees.

AfD gets all the usual criticism you would expect. They are compared to the Nazis daily, and all the major political parties in the country hurl accusations against AfD leaders on a daily basis. And, of course, all of them insist that if a coalition government ever needs to be created AfD would have no place in a civilized Germany.

None of the insults have worked to dampen AfD’s growing support, so a new alternative is being explored: banning AfD outright.

Germany is debating whether to ban the far-Right Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the party surges to 21 per cent in the polls, amid warnings from intelligence officials that its members are becoming increasingly extreme.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German president, warned in a speech to the country’s domestic intelligence agency that “we all have it in our hands to put those who despise our democracy in their place”.

His speech at the castle where the German post-war constitution was created has widely been seen as support for a ban after Thomas Haldenwang, the domestic spy chief, warned about growing Right-wing extremist influence in the party.

Mr Haldenwang said: “We see a considerable number of protagonists in this party that spread hate against all types of minorities here in Germany.”

Banning political parties is, of course, entirely on-brand for the Left. And despite the claims that AfD is Nazi-adjacent, the fact is that banning political parties is itself a tactic the Nazis were happy to use themselves.

AfD exists and is increasingly popular not because Germans are desperate to see a Fourth Reich built on Nazi principles, but for a more prosaic reason: ordinary Germans are being left behind by an elite that has more loyalty to an ideological project and a WEF-style technocracy than the average German.

Merkel made a unilateral and unpopular decision to flood her country with refugees who shared neither the language nor the culture of Germany, and with cultural habits that are offensive to many (in particular regarding the treatment of women). Few, if any, of the proposals AfD has made are out of the mainstream of European culture. For instance, their proposal to ban the full-body veiling of women is often singled out as particularly evil, but Angela Merkel actually wanted to make such veiling illegal wherever possible. France, Belgium, Austria, The Netherlands all ban the Burqua, as do many Italian localities.

It is only when the AfD proposes this measure that it becomes unacceptable. Because it is not AfD’s views that are unacceptable, but its deviance from the Establishment views in general.

It is a threat. And threats cannot be tolerated.

Ask Donald Trump about that. Or any COVID skeptic. Or Pro-lifers targeted by the FBI. Or Catholics who go to Latin masses. Or…

You get the idea.

Last month, the publicly-funded German Institute for Human Rights contended that AfD’s stance contradicts the country’s constitution and therefore could potentially be disqualified from participating in elections.

Steinmeier cautioned that “adversaries” of democracy could soon amass sufficient influence to erode German liberties and “brutalize” society. He conveyed, “We possess the capability to put those who hold contempt for democracy back in their rightful place,” alluding to AfD.

German intelligence authorities have indicated a growing “radicalization” among AfD members. Nevertheless, the party currently commands the support of over one in five German voters, making it the second-largest group after the ruling CDU/CSU coalition, according to the most recent polls.

The Establishment is working overtime to delegitimize any opposition to its agenda and is ramping up its efforts. Calls to declare a “Climate Emergency” here in the US are intended to give the president the same kind of powers he enjoyed under the COVID emergency, sweeping away basic constitutional rights. The persecution of Trump–whatever your view of him as an individual–is a dangerous step in the ever-increasing weaponization of government here in the US.

These types of efforts are emerging everywhere in the West, and there is little time to stop them–assuming it isn’t too late already.
