Everybody seems to be getting blood clots

Coincidences do happen. I realize that.

Confirmation bias is a real thing–we tend to notice things that reinforce our preconceived notions.

But damn. Cruising through Twitter I saw not one, not two, but three stories about prominent people being treated for life-threatening blood clots all posted within an hour. And, of course, some very prominent people who you would not expect to have heart attacks (can’t think of any names right now, can you?) have been collapsing before our eyes.

Yes, confirmation bias is real. I could be just noticing things, although I really haven’t been thinking about blood clots or heart attacks without prompting.

In a world with 7 billion people, even improbably things happen.

But damn, there sure SEEM to be a lot of prominent people with serious circulatory problems all of a sudden. And they tend to be young. It’s not like getting the news that a 90 year old dropped over dead. These are often kids and young adults.

I mean, look at her. It’s certainly PLAUSIBLE that this was just bad luck or some undiagnosed underlying conditions, but really? Sure, there are 7 billion people in the world, but only a few thousand celebrities, and they seem to be having a lot of health problems all of a sudden. And if they are, how many of those unknown 7 billion are as well?

Sure, it could be a coincidence. Or confirmation bias.

But what if it isn’t? Of course we will see a slew of experts with plausible sounding explanations for why this is happening, but since when did they have to show up so frequently on TV to warn us not to jump to conclusions?

Blood clots. I seem to recall hearing a lot about blood clots being associated with something else. Can’t quite put my finger on what in the news was highly associated with myocarditis and blood clots, but there has been a lot of chatter about circulatory problems of late and potential causes. Britain has been having a debate about why so many people are  having heart attacks.

Some people blame statins–during the pandemic fewer were prescribed. Yeah, that’s it. Not enough statins. Right?

Singers, TV stars, and sports figures are either especially susceptible to circulatory problems, or what we are seeing here is reflected in the larger population. And why are some governments starting to hide the ball on releasing data about it?

There is little doubt that there has been a rise in cardiac deaths since the pandemic began, but a lot of authorities attribute that to COVID and not other factors that will remain unnamed.

Maybe. And how well could you tell, given how large a percentage of the population has both gotten COVID and the vaccine? A lot of studies these days are quite sloppy and/or biased. Vinay Prasad just wrote a piece about how most studies are wrong, either intentionally or through sloppy work and analysis. The latest study arguing that Republicans died at a greater rate due to vaccine hesitancy is a superb example; even they admit their accuracy in identifying political party of the people is only 57% accurate, if that, and they don’t control for various confounding factors such as age, health, etc. It’s crap science.

It’s hard to trust experts because, well, they have proven to be liars. And, of course, they spent years recommending that we do things that some claim are causing the problem. They have quite the reason to lie–who wants to be known as the person who killed a ton of people through stupid advice? Think of the effort Fauci went to in order to hide his ties to COVID’s origin in Wuhan.

Who wants to be known as the person who killed millions? Most people would lie to cover that up, and Fauci seems especially comfortable with lying.

Still, there are a number of things we do know, including that much of what we have been told about the vaccine has proven to be false, and that there is now no doubt that it causes myocarditis, especially in young people. And we know they are associated with blood clots.

Go figure.

It is a mistake to assume that what we are witnessing is a large number of vaccine injuries–confirmation bias is real and coincidences happen–but it would be insane not to wonder about it and/or be suspicious that our public health authorities aren’t telling us the full story. It’s not like they have been at any time during COVID.

They are liars, and have more than enough reason to lie. That doesn’t mean they are lying this time, but you would have to be credulous, blind and deaf to simply take their word for it.

European countries seem to take the blood clot risk seriously. Most countries in Europe actively discourage most people from taking the vaccine, limiting its distribution to high risk people. Do they know something we don’t? They admit that the risk/reward profile for healthy people does not favor vaccination.

They acknowledge a fact that the US public health establishment is hiding.

Do I KNOW what is causing this apparent rash of blood clots and other circulatory system issues in so many people?

Of course not. A very expensive, well designed, and honestly analyzed study would be the best way to figure it out. One with a good control group and designed to avoid false correlations.

That, my friends, is not going to happen. And that is a shame, because it would be very good to know whether the vaccine, COVID itself, some combination, or another factor is involved in what appears to be a spike in blood clots and excess deaths in the West.

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure they powers that be don’t really want to know, because they fear they might now like the results.
