Sunday Smiles

Another Sunday, another Sunday Smiles.

Believe it or not, it takes quite a bit of searching the interwebs to find all these memes.

As much as I would like to take the credit, I can take no credit for anything but curating them. Others have done the real labor of production. I used to imagine that somewhere in a third-world ill-lit factory overworked children churn out memes to benefit those blessed to live in the first world.

Middlemen, agents, distributors, and finally Elon Musk all take their cut, and the final product gets delivered to you here on Hot Air. This is the way of capitalism, where privileged people exploit the labor of the underprivileged. Like cobalt for electric car batteries, blood diamonds for wedding rings, and LGBTQ+ celebrating T-shirts, memes are one more commoditized product in the global production scheme that fulfills the dreams of wealthy first-worlders at the expense of the oppressed.

Then I learned that all these are created by geeks in their mom’s basements. No exploitation is required.

As far as I know, nobody makes any money producing memes, and nobody even knows the geniuses who create them. They are benefactors of all mankind, uncompensated.

As you enjoy this week’s memes, take a moment to give silent thanks to the cynics who create these gems.
