New York City Mayor Eric Adams is flailing and failing to deal with the illegal alien crisis that has reached his city.

Governor Gregg Abbot of Texas should send him a copy of Die Hard, with a note saying “Welcome to the party, pal!”

Adams is in a bind. Mayor of a sanctuary city that never had to provide much sanctuary, he now is being forced to put his money where his mouth is. And it turns out to be expensive and difficult to come up with the cash or even places to deploy it. As with Texas, Florida, Arizona, and every other state and city, it turns out that the will to help people in need cannot extend to the entire world.

Charity begins at home.

That notion gave Adams an idea: how about YOUR home? Adams wants New Yorkers to open their homes to illegal aliens for a fee.

That’s quite a proposal, especially given the stories about hotels that have been housing aliens have been trashed by drunken residents.

There’s no place like home?

Mayor Eric Adams wants regular New Yorkers to literally welcome migrants flooding the Big Apple by revealing his latest idea to potentially put thousands of asylum seekers into private dwellings while paying local homeowners and landlords.

“It is my vision to take the next step to this faith-based locales and then move to a private residence” Hizzoner said Monday during a City Hall press conference.

“We can take that $4.2 billion — $4.3 [billion] maybe now — that we anticipate we have to spend and we can put it back in the pockets of everyday, everyday houses of worship instead of putting it in the pockets of corporations.”

“We should be recycling our own dollars,” he added.

Adams said moving migrants into private homes is the next step in the administration’s blueprint to house the crush of homeless individuals, after unveiling a new plan to house single migrant men in 50 churches, mosques and other houses of worship across the five boroughs.

I have a modicum of sympathy for the Mayor since few of us are actually faced with having to live out our principles by paying an actual price. This is true of all of us, but Leftists have so many “principles” that actually apply solely to what others should pay and do that it’s good to see a liberal hoist by his own petard and try to do something other than simply whine about it.

Of course, Adams IS primarily whining, so my sympathy is limited, and he has few options since any deviance from the accepted leftist ideological line is harshly punished. Biden has already excommunicated him from the president’s campaign, for instance.

Still, I doubt that Adams’ plan will get a lot of positive press once it gets implemented if it ever does. Apparently, it violates current law, so there is a bit of a hill to climb to get it going. Not that I expect that to be much of an obstacle for a Democrat.

Since last spring, over 72,000 people have flooded into Gotham with over 45,000 currently living in 160 taxpayer-funded emergency shelters and hotels.

“We need to be clear, this is not sustainable with the inflow that we’re receiving,” a desperate Adams explained.

The mayor said the city will work to “find a way” to get around city government rules that typically bar the city from housing homeless people in private homes.

No, the big problem will be once migrants move in. The city will likely pay handsomely–they are spending about $380/night for migrant food and housing–but as we have seen in the migrant hotels, the price for dealing with the migrants can be quite steep for those having to deal with them daily.

The real problem, of course, is the open border and Biden’s unwillingness to enforce immigration and border laws. The open border has become an open sore on the body politic, and Republicans need to keep the pressure on the Blue cities and states to pressure Biden to act responsibly.

Republicans can’t. He is utterly indifferent to anything a Republican says. Only Democrats can apply any pressure that matters.

It’s time that they did.
