Children are not mentally competent to make many kinds of decisions. Particularly decisions with lifelong consequences. We knew that until yesterday.

In my own state, Minnesota, one may not get a tattoo until the age of 18. The reasoning is simple and easy to understand: tattoos are essentially permanent, and kids make stupid decisions all the time. Getting a tattoo of the Empire State Building on your penis may seem funny at 15, but is likely a mistake.

Wait until you are at least 18 before you ruin your life by tattooing a marijuana leaf on your cheek, kid. You will likely regret it.

Getting that same penis chopped off, though, or permanently sterilizing yourself is simply “medical care” in the State of Minnesota, and the Governor just signed a law making Minnesota a sanctuary state when children have the ultimate authority in making the decision to chop their wee-wee off.

Children know who they are, and must listen.

That is, of course, insane. But it is the new orthodoxy not just with Leftist politicians, but the majority of the medical community. A medical community that views going through puberty and growing up as a disease just like diabetes or asthma.

The good doctor who compares sterilizing children to giving albuterol to an asthmatic runs the gender clinic at Children’s Hospital, a fine institution within walking distance of the Minnesota State Capitol.

She is also an advocate for butchering children. For all the right reasons, of course. But a butcher nonetheless.

The director of the gender program at Children’s Minnesota claimed that treating asthma and diabetes is no different from offering sex changes for kids.

The medical establishment refers to sex changes as “gender-affirming care,” which includes mental health counseling, social transitioning, hormones and potential surgeries down the line.

Dr. Angela Goepferd, a pediatrician, heads the sex change clinic that is catered for kids at Children’s Minnesota. Children’s Minnesota treats children struggling with gender dysphoria as young as 6 and creates plans for them, according to Goepferd. They offer hormones to kids as young as 14.

According to a sample gender support plan obtained by Fox News Digital, the hospital will offer puberty blockers at the first signs of sexual development called Tanner Stage 2.

Before you think that I believe that Dr. Goepferd is a Josef Mengele, coldly experimenting on children out of mere curiosity, I suspect that is not at all the case. Clearly, she has bought into the ideology herself and is a passionate believer in the safety, efficacy, and utility of butchering children. Many doctors have, and at least as many are simply indifferent to the fate of the children in question and are just chasing the money.

It is true believers like Goepferd, though, who enable the pure sociopaths who will mutilate children for money. They provide the gloss of compassion that motivates the political, social, medical, and activist classes to evangelize for the sterilization and mutilation of children.

She is the 21st-century version of the enthusiastic lobotomist, excited by the prospect of using a new tool in the medical toolbox to transform the lives of people whom she considers ill. And just as lobotomists would routinely operate on misbehaving children, children with depression, and kids with ADHD, Goepferd and her ilk are advocating for the mutilation of children who have become enamored with a TikTok fad.

Remember the Tide Pod Challenge? Thousands of kids actually ate Tide Pods because of a TikTok trend.

Eating Tide Pods became so pervasive that Tide and Rob Gronkowski had to team up and convince kids not to do it.

Imagine the Tide Pod challenge but now add every major cultural and political institution, as well as the massed weight of the medical community, pushing kids to actually do the challenge instead of avoid it.

You don’t have to imagine. You are seeing it before your eyes, but a thousand times worse. Lives are being ruined because the Establishment has medicalized teenage angst and weaponized it against society.

Everything the gender benders are telling you about transgenderism in children is a lie. This is a fad that will subside, as all fads do, but it will persist longer as a mass phenomenon and never completely go away because the Establishment is 100% behind it. Worse, because it is focused on pre-pubescent and pubescent children they will have an abnormally large group of willing victims for the foreseeable future until the backlash becomes so large that it must be stopped.

The backlash will not come from you and me, although it is important that we fight to save every child we can. The killer backlash will come when the victims in their 20s and 30s realize how harmed they have been. That means at least a decade and maybe 2 1/2 before the wave retreats fully. Hundreds of thousands of kids, at least, will have been grievously harmed.

We are rightly repelled by what the medical establishment did to thousands of victims in the 20th century, literally scrambling their brains “for their own good.” Yet it is easy to forget that the inventor of the lobotomy received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his invention, and at the height of the lobotomy craze, a doctor traveled the country in a specially configured RV to perform lobotomies. Parents would line up to have their kids’ brains scrambled because the doctors said it was a good thing.

Nobody paid a price for that evil, and I fear nobody will pay a price for this one. We will be told that this was considered gold-standard care, and they didn’t know. Their intentions were good. You know the story.

It’s unsurprising that a few doctors like Goepferd truly believe in what they are doing. There are always cranks in every field.

What is truly evil is that the medical establishment has embraced the unscientific witch doctors and is shoving this down society’s throat, ruining lives and families. I can actually forgive the true believers, because they mean well and are, frankly, pretty obviously mentally ill.

I can’t forgive their saner enablers who are giving in to the trans hysteria, making money off it, lying through their teeth to parents, or engaged in the project of destroying the family.

Those people are evil, and this time we should punish the malefactors once the evil is exposed.
