Prepare for the invasion

Somewhere between 700,000 and a million illegal migrants are gathering at or headed to the United States border in preparation for the expiration of Title 42, a pandemic-era restriction that was supposed to slow the pace of immigration into the US.

I’m not sure why anybody thought that Title 42 restrictions made much of a difference–Joe Biden has been president during the pandemic and 6 million or more migrants have crossed into the country without much issue (for themselves), but apparently once the deadline passes this week it will get even worse.

Things can always get worse, and they are bad enough already.

The scale of the crisis is impossible to describe to most people because Americans do not live in a third-world country–yet. But of course that is the point, isn’t it? Turning America into a third-world country appears to be the point of the exercise.

The number of people waiting at or near the border for Title 42 to expire could be as low as the population of Alaska or as high as the population of Delaware. Last year alone Biden let in enough illegal migrants to populate the state of Mississippi.

By the end of his term, the number of illegal migrants who Biden invited into the country will number at least the same as the population of Virginia.

This is in only 4 years. We will have added the population of Virginia in 4 years–and that is only the ILLEGAL immigrants.

Nobody sane can believe that this is something that is good for the average American because it clearly isn’t. Even Blue-state governors and Democrat mayors are screaming for relief, although notably none of them objected when it was only Red states who paid a price. In fact, they piously criticized people concerned with the influx as xenophobic racists bent on harming children.

Now that illegal immigrants are actually showing up in their supposed sanctuaries, they are upset. This was supposed to be handled by the proles down south.

The Blue states have barely been touched by the crisis, and they are still under the impression that a few hundred people showing up at their doorstep is a huge issue.

Imagine having everyone from Virginia crossing your lawn and invading your cities. that is the reality at the border.

One of the myths of the invasion is that we are dealing with refugees. Sure, there are a few scattered among the mass of people crossing the border. And when you are talking about millions of people total, a few are still a lot. Women and children are coming too. But they are not the majority, merely the most exploited by both the activists and the cartels.

The vast majority are younger men, which is the opposite of what you would expect in a refugee crisis. When people are fleeing for their lives it is women and children first (at least in places that distinguish between genders). This is more like an invasion than a refugee crisis. Younger, fighting-age men–the very people left behind in the kind of war zone that spawns refugee crises.

Of course, most of them are coming here not to fight but to work. They left their families behind and will send much of their income earned here back home. This is not in itself a bad thing and is in fact a very good thing for their families. It is totally rational for anybody living in poverty to want a better life for themselves and their family. I have no ill will to those coming to seek a better life. I don’t owe them anything, but I still feel compassion for them.

It is also true that some of the young men crossing the border ARE coming here to fight, if not against our military, then against our law enforcement. The streets may not be paved with gold in America, but there is a hell of a lot of money to be made if you don’t mind crossing swords with law enforcement. And hiding in plain site among millions of other migrants is a pretty effective camouflage. Not everybody coming is exactly among the tired, poor, and huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

Many are predators.

In the meantime, average American citizens–for whom our government officials are supposed to care and work–are watching their communities destroyed.

This is because, while it is true that moving to America will undoubtedly improve the living conditions for many of the migrants, their coming here is dragging down the living conditions for millions of American citizens. Even if Americans’ living standards drop precipitously in certain areas, those conditions will still be a far cry better than what the migrants left behind.

It’s a good deal for them, but bad for the Americans affected.

A well-regulated immigration system could easily benefit Americans. Bringing in skilled immigrants and a baseline of ambitious but unskilled migrants willing to work their way up the ladder can be a very good thing, especially if they come in numbers that can easily be integrated into society.

Many immigrants actually are more productive than natural-born Americans, who are more interested in a comfortable life than in building something new. A disproportionate number of our business owners and entrepreneurs are immigrants, and they enrich our country.

But the powers that be aren’t interested in either increasing our skill level or in sorting out the ambitious from the avaricious and predatory. In fact, the current policies give some preference to the predatory who are willing to exploit the average migrant wanting to get ahead. How many of those mothers and children have been abused along the way? How many of those young men are enforcers for the cartel who are there to ensure that the evil men south of the border are getting their “fees?”

I have my own ideas of why the Biden folks, and for that matter far too many in the political and economic elites are so eager to have America flooded with illegal migrants. But it is all speculation.

I will note that even in the worst third-world hellholes the elite lives very well indeed, and have far fewer constraints on their actions than in modern Western societies with somewhat functioning justice systems. You will note that our justice system, too, is being dismantled.

Coincidence?

I think not.

Do our own Elites envy the range of action that their counterparts have in less civilized societies? Perhaps. They certainly believe that they can flood society and undermine our basic institutions without killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, and on this point, they are sorely mistaken.

A similar process took place in the Western Roman Empire once it attained dominance over the Mediterranean. They became fat and happy, lived off the fat of the land, and opened their borders to barbarians who they used as cheap labor, especially in their military. Corruption ran rampant, the currency was devalued, and things went to hell.

That was a bad move.

The parallels are not perfect, but they are apt. The United States rocketed to the top. Our betters are determined to extract what they can before it crashes to the ground.
