Americans need to wake up to the fact that the Left–including the teachers’ unions and the activists they collaborate with–is turning America’s students into an American version of the Red Guards.

The Red Guards were Mao’s shock troops during the Cultural Revolution. They were violent and turned their evil on anybody who was considered a threat to the cultural revolution that Mao was pushing in China. They terrorized intellectuals in particular, but their victims were pretty much anybody who threatened Mao’s cult of personality.

The early phases of the Cultural Revolution were centered on China’s schools. In the summer of 1966, the Communist Party leadership proclaimed that some of China’s educators were members of the exploiting classes, who were poisoning students with their capitalist ideology. Indeed, the educated classes in general were marked as targets of the revolution.

The Cultural Revolution is one of the scariest examples of how totalitarianism can lead to frenzies of ideological violence. And it started with students.

This particular group claims that it is training students to be nonviolent, but what they are really doing is training the next generation of Antifa terrorists.

Think I am catastrophizing? Look back at the 2020 “mostly peaceful” protests. They got full-throated support from the establishment, even overriding the public health hysteria over COVID.

Protesting is public health too.

Teachers are leading students on protests, and political leaders are justifying the terror in America’s cities such as Chicago.

The Left is creating a mythology of an America that is run by fascists who must be destroyed, and training the next generation of warriors to carry the fight to those of us who are deplorable. Riots are encouraged, protesters let off by lenient prosecutors, and police forces have been decimated by budget cuts.

This is what “mostly peaceful” means. Largely violent more like it.

Search the web for “student protests” and you will find countless examples. Many of these protests are led by teachers themselves, recruiting students into a life of political activism. From there students are funneled into “non-profit” political groups that radicalize them further, and eventually you get a cadre of rioters.

You can see the results around you. Young people attacking people willing to stand up to the Left.

It’s only going to get worse, unfortunately. The public school system is so riddled with political activists that I can’t see how the momentum stops in the short term.

Obviously consequences for violence are necessary, but at least in Blue areas things will have to get much worse than they are now, and the example of Portland makes you wonder if any decay will stir the Democrats to push back against their Leftist activists.

Probably not.
