100% government funded media outlet objects to being called "government funded"

The U.S. Agency for Global Media is a US government agency funded entirely by the government.

Still, it objects to Twitter labeling it “government funded.”

Welcome to the world of propaganda masquerading as truth. Even if you get 100% of your funding from the government, if you are the “good guys” Twitter should pretend you are not.

The explanation for why labeling a government-funded news agency “government-funded” is some grade-A  “don’t look at the man behind the curtain” BS. It is a great example of how the establishment views truth. Truth is what you SHOULD believe, not what is actually the reality.

Amanda Bennett, the CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, rejected the label during a State Department briefing when asked about Twitter’s designation of Voice of America, a subsidiary of the agency, as “government-funded media.” Twitter added the label to several American outlets, including NPR, which is partially funded by the government.

“We completely reject the implications of the label ‘government-funded,’” said Bennett, according to a State Department transcript. “Of course we’re government-funded, but it’s potentially misleading.”

Bennett, a former director of Voice of America, claimed that the label could be misconstrued as “government-controlled.” She insisted that the U.S. Agency for Global Media and its subsidiaries are “independent” and “not government-controlled.”

It’s the GOVERNMENT, for criminy’s sake. Of course it is controlled by the government. It IS the government. It has a dot gov website!

She complained, and we learned about it through a State Department transcript. WTF?

Don’t notice the man behind the curtain.

It’s one thing for NPR to make its dubious claims to pure independence–after all, it is in reality no worse a news organization and no more beholden to the government than the rest of the MSM. All of them lick the feet of the government experts about equally, so it is at best a matter of degree there.

But here? This is the damn government complaining that Twitter noticed it was the government and saying so.

Is there a more blatant example of how over the moon these guys are about spreading misinformation? In this case, they want to claim that a simple, obvious, and true fact should never be mentioned because it interferes with their mission. Which, apparently, is to very badly pretend not to be a government mouthpiece.

There is nothing wrong with governments having mouthpieces. It is unavoidable, and simply because a source is the government doesn’t make it automatically a lie.

It probably is a lie, but that is a separate matter. We seem to get nothing but lies from the government of late, but in principle, it need not be that way. And non-government news outlets lie all the time.

But even true information gets spun, which is why we always should consider the source and look for multiple versions to get a fuller picture. Clearly, they don’t want the source considered, as if what they put out is the voice of God or something.

It’s absurd.
