L.A. teacher strike is disgusting

Any time I criticize the public schools and/or public school teachers I get a lot of grief.

I get it. We all know some good teachers and fondly remember our best teachers from back in the day. Painting with too broad a brush is unfair, etc. etc.

Yeah, well, I have news for you: there are way too many trash public schools, trash teachers, and ideological groomers in the public schools. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. And when I use 3 fingers to eat out of the pudding cup the taste is foul.

During the pandemic, teachers betrayed their students, sacrificing their education. It was striking that truck drivers, grocery store workers, and delivery drivers were deemed “essential,” but the teachers’ unions demanded that their own workers be labeled inessential. The results were terrible for students. Learning loss, mental illness, and even suicide spiked.

After that betrayal, you would think that a little humility would be in order. But you would be wrong. At least when it comes to the L.A. Public Schools teachers’ union. Rather than buckling down to help the kids recover what they can from the pandemic losses, they are on strike–in sympathy with SEIU (service employees) who are demanding a 30% raise.

They are literally dancing in the streets, as the kids are left without teachers.

Unsurprisingly the rhetoric is straight out of the communist revolutionary playbook, as you would expect from the SEIU (Service Employees International Union). I freely admit to having no intelligent opinion about the proper level of pay for the SEIU workers in Los Angeles schools. Since they work for the public schools, I would bet they get a pretty nice pay and benefits package, but perhaps they indeed are being exploited by THE MAN.

I don’t care.

Public School teachers should be teaching students. They have an enormous debt to pay back for the damage done, and by striking they are doing yet more damage to the students they participated in damaging.

The Left’s exploitation of children is breathtaking. Children are a tool, a shield, and victims of their agenda. The level of indifference to their well-being is unimaginable. When teachers strike, they are taking the kids hostage.

We keep on hearing about how teachers do it for the kids, but that isn’t what I am seeing here. I am seeing the exact opposite–kids are a tool they can manipulate to get what they want: give us more, or your kids don’t get what they need.

It’s appalling.
