The malicious left-wing site Gawker, thought it would be rather comical to publish excerpts of Sarah Palin’s new book America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag, mocking Palin and her opinions. The book is not for sale until Tuesday, yet Gawker received these excerpts from the Trig Truther site Palingates.

Sarah Palin rightfully had concerns about their misinterpretation of the contents of the book, and for publishing excerpts without permission from her publisher Harper Collins. Gawker ridiculed Palin’s concerns.

Guess who is having the last laugh?

Publisher Harper Collins filed a legal complaint against Gawker for publicizing pages of Palin’s book.

The legal complaint was filed Friday in federal court in Manhattan, said a spokeswoman for Harper Collins Publishers. The filing came two days after Gawker published images of 21 of the book’s pages and its dedication page. In response, Palin tweeted, “Isn’t that illegal?”

Her publisher contends it is. The lawsuit asks that Gawker be banned from what it terms “further copyright infringement” and that Gawker deliver the source material to the publisher so it can be destroyed. HarperCollins is also seeking financial damages.

Does this prove Gawker did anything wrong? No. But Harper Collins did send a letter to the site asking for them to remove the excerpts to no avail. We’ll see how this case unfolds.

Update: Today, a federal judge ordered Gawker to pull down unauthorized excerpts from Sarah Palin’s book, “America By Heart,” until a hearing November 30.

A two-page order signed Saturday by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Griesa, who sits in Manhattan, says: “Gawker is temporarily retrained and enjoined from continuing to distribute, publish or otherwise transmit pages” of the book.
