I won’t rant and rave about any of these stories. I’ll just note them on the site here to mark the passing of a once great country.

Item 1: Female Muslim med students are routinely violating health standards in deference to Islamic practice.

Women training in several hospitals in England have raised objections to removing their arm coverings in theatre and to rolling up their sleeves when washing their hands, because it is regarded as immodest in Islam.

Universities and NHS trusts fear many more will refuse to co-operate with new Department of Health guidance, introduced this month, which stipulates that all doctors must be “bare below the elbow”.

The measure is deemed necessary to stop the spread of infections such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile, which have killed hundreds.

Minutes of a clinical academics’ meeting at Liverpool University revealed that female Muslim students at Alder Hey children’s hospital had objected to rolling up their sleeves to wear gowns.

Similar concerns have been raised at Leicester University. Minutes from a medical school committee said that “a number of Muslim females had difficulty in complying with the procedures to roll up sleeves to the elbow for appropriate handwashing.”

Predictably, UK imams are siding with the students. So that’s the first item, with Islam challenging basic science.

Item 2: A Christian bishop from Pakistan finds himself under death threats for criticizing Islam. So Islam is challenging basic freedom of speech and religion.

Dr Nazir-Ali was warned that he would not “live long” and would be “sorted out” if he continued to criticise Islam, following his claim that parts of Britain had become “no-go” areas for non-Muslims.

Police have launched inquiries into the phone calls that were made to his home and have put him and his family under police protection with the use of an emergency line.

Surveillance cameras around the building have been improved. The bishop’s mail is being screened by the Post Office as an added precaution.

“The irony is that I had similar threats when I was a bishop in Pakistan, but I never thought I would have them here,” the bishop said. Meanwhile, Muslim leaders are to meet him in an emergency summit to challenge him over his claims, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Senior members of the Muslim Council of Britain have written to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, expressing serious concerns at the remarks by Dr Nazir-Ali. The meeting is expected to go ahead later this month, under the auspices of the Muslim-Christian Forum.

Predictably, the MCB chooses to criticize the bishop rather than the ones who are threatening to kill him. Along with warnings about the no-go zones (which certainly exist in other European countries), Bishop Nazir-Ali warned about efforts to Islamicize England. As if to back him up on that, Item 3: Islam (with assists from the Hindu and Sikh communities) is challenging the freedom of association, and the freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Whole communities are involved in assisting and covering up “honour violence” in Britain, a new study says.

Informal networks of taxi drivers, councillors and sometimes even police officers track down and return women who try to escape, researchers claim.

A report by the Centre for Social Cohesion – an offshoot of the right-wing think-tank Civitas, whose advisors include the former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey and the Labour backbencher Frank Field – alleges that the problem exists in the country’s Muslim, Sikh and Hindu communities, even among second-generation immigrants.

Women have been raped, abused and even killed for forming “inappropriate” relationships or merely for wanting to go to university. The report found that:

• Women may be attacked for nothing more than listening to western music

• Families have imported brides to work in prostitution

• Local authorities are not acting because of “political correctness” and a fear of being accused of racism.

Many South Asian men brought up in this country want to marry uneducated women, known as “freshies”, who are “uncontaminated” by ideas of female independence, the report, published tomorrow says.

And then there’s this:

One woman every month is the victim of an “honour” killing, the CPS says.

There will always be an England? In name, perhaps.
