Marilinda Garcia’s Democratic opponent attacks her from the bunker

Incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Annie Kuster wasted no time blasting a fundraising email that included a quote from Garcia where she called women “emotional rollercoasters.”

Our opponent’s REAL views are finally beginning to surface.

She recently said that Democrats are “insulting” women by focusing on issues like equal pay for equal work, which she thinks are distracting from “real issues”. Even worse, it recently came to light that in 2007 she said that women are “emotional rollercoasters!”

By now it’s crystal clear that our opponent would rather fight for the Tea Party than hard-working New Hampshire families

This quote was taken from her speech on a bill that would repeal New Hampshire’s 2003 parental notification law; it passed.

Yet, unlike Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock’s idiotic statements about rape and pregnancy, Garcia’s quote seems, well, rather innocuous.

Here’s the quote in question:

A pregnant teen — I mean, most women are emotional roller coasters — but a pregnant teen is an emotional roller coaster going at warp-speed.

This will certainly be used against Garcia as Election Day approaches by the Kuster campaign, which has decided to attack Garcia on gun control, paycheck fairness, abortion, and other issues where Democrats enjoy a gender advantage. Garcia said in a radio interview, which was supposed to be a debate, that Kuster’s line of attack “insulting” (via the Hill):

During a Tuesday interview with local radio station WGIR, Garcia was asked why Democrats were using “the women’s rights issue” to attack her in her race with Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-N.H.).
“Frankly, I think it’s insulting, because they’re preying upon what they see as a vulnerable group, one that can be swayed with scare tactics,” Garcia said.

She accused Democrats of “continually harp[ing] upon these social-issue scare tactics” to try to get at voters like herself — young single women. Garcia is 31, and her profile as a young, female Hispanic candidate has made her a rising star within the GOP even before she won a hard-fought primary fight last month.

Garcia said women are more focused on other topics.

“In reality, the women I talk to, I would say maybe 2 percent of all of the voters I’ve talked to in the 2nd District and my peers — What do we talk about? We worry about the job market, we worry about our energy independence, we worry about our debt, we worry about entitlement reform, we worry about national security,” she said.

“These are the issues we want to talk about and women are concerned about, but the Democrats don’t have a record to run on.”

In the meantime, Garcia has released this new ad, while Kuster refuses to hold town hall events with her constituents. In the TV spot, Garcia speaks about how she will be an independent voice in Washington, touting her work in Concord to balance the budget and reduce heath care costs in the Granite State.

In a press release, Garcia’s communications director, Ken Cunningham said:

Marilinda Garcia is an independent leader who is committed to reducing our national deficit, reforming health care, and promoting bipartisan solutions to the many challenges facing New Hampshire and the United States. She has a strong record of supporting common-sense legislation that helps the middle class, and she would bring this mentality to Washington to ensure there is ‘opportunity for all.’

Unfortunately, Ann Kuster has used her time in Congress to vote with the her party leadership and solidify her self-described role as “one of the strongest supporters of the President in the entire Congress.” Marilinda Garcia knows this is not the New Hampshire way. She will be the independent voice that our state deserves, and fight for our values of lower taxes, smaller government, and personal freedom and liberty in Congress. Our campaign’s grassroots support continues to grow because of Marilinda’s dedication to upholding our commitments of independence and liberty.”

Regarding polling, Garcia is trailing Kuster by 11 points. Yet, this town hall tour she’s launching next week could alter the race. We are approaching the finish line, but there’s enough time where huge shifts can occur.
