Anyone who thought President Trump might take the nation’s 241st Independence Day holiday weekend off from his unending feud with media was mistaken.

The president interrupted a weekend at his resort in Bedminster, N.J. to commute to the Kennedy Center in Washington for a rally for faith and veterans. Trump hailed veterans, touting his signing of the Veterans Accountability Act last week to enable sanctions against unresponsive VA workers.  “I was left a mess, the fact is,” said the president. “But we’re cleaning it up. You watch.”

In some trademark morning tweets Saturday, Trump suggested NBC had fired commentator Greta Van Susteren last week because she refused to go along with negative coverage of his administration. He attacked CNN as usual for propagating fake news and garbage journalism.

Then, he returned to the subject of MSNBC and its morning crew of Joe Scarborough and Mike Brzezinski, who have been critical of Trump and drew some much-criticized Trump tweets Thursday.

To kick off the weekend Trump tweeted, “Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!”

On Friday, Scarborough had responded, “He should be a lot more worried about NATO and building a relationship with Angela Merkel than he is with cable news hosts.”

At the Saturday evening rally Trump was introduced by Pastor Robert Jeffress of Dallas’ First Baptist Church. “Wherever I go,” Jeffress said, “people are more excited about Donald Trump than on election day.”

The president received a standing ovation upon introduction. He told the crowd:

“My administration is transferring power outside of Washington and returning it to where it belongs, the people. The fake media is trying to silence us, but we will not let them. The people know the truth. The fake media tried to stop us from going to the White House, but I’m president and they’re not.”

Trump also criticized media for not being “subtle and smart.”

“The fact is,” he said, “the press destroyed themselves because they went too far. Instead of being subtle and smart, they used the hatchet and the people saw it right from the beginning.”

By 11 p.m. the president was back in New Jersey at his resort.

And by 9:30 this morning, he was right back at it on Twitter, as shown at the top. What will tomorrow bring?
